Your Minecraft “dog” is a tamed wolf. If it is not following you, first check whether it is sitting: interact with it again to make it stand. If it is already standing, check that it belongs to you, then make sure you and the wolf are in the same dimension and test on solid ground near open terrain. Wolves do not teleport to their owner in every situation.
1. Make sure the wolf is standing
A sitting wolf stays where you left it instead of following. Minecraft’s official wolf guide explains that you can use the interaction key to make a wolf sit until you return. Interact with your wolf again to make it stand, then walk away and see whether it follows.
2. Check that it is your tamed wolf
Follow-owner behavior applies to a wolf that has been tamed and belongs to the player it is expected to follow. Microsoft’s Bedrock follow-owner behavior documentation states that the entity must be marked as an owner through taming. If the wolf is not yours, it will not follow you as an owned pet.
3. Check where you and the wolf are
Teleporting is conditional, not a guarantee that the wolf will appear beside you whenever you move away. A wolf may fail to catch up if it is in another dimension, sitting, in an unloaded chunk, riding in a minecart, attached to a lead, in water, or unable to find a suitable destination. For a straightforward test, return to the wolf’s dimension, stand on solid ground, and move near open terrain so the area around the wolf can load. The community-maintained Minecraft Wiki wolf reference describes these teleporting restrictions.

4. Check for add-ons or custom entities
If you are using a Bedrock add-on or a custom wolf-like entity, its creator may have configured whether it follows an owner or can teleport, as well as related distance behavior. The Microsoft documentation describes settings for creators; they are not universal player-facing controls for vanilla wolves, and they should not be assumed to describe Java Edition behavior.

If the wolf is standing, is yours, and is in the same dimension, test again on loaded, open ground. If it still does not follow, the available behavior references do not establish one universal fix for a world-specific bug or a wolf that is dead or otherwise missing. Edition, game version, and add-ons can matter, so those details are needed to narrow down the next step.
