In most cases, a pink Minecraft display means the game cannot load a texture and is showing a placeholder, or a graphics setting or add-on is interfering with how textures render. The color alone does not tell you which of those applies. Start by checking two things: whether the pink affects a few blocks and items or the whole screen, and whether it began right after you installed a pack or add-on, updated the game, or changed a graphics setting.
What the pink usually indicates
Minecraft Help treats missing textures and general graphics problems as separate troubleshooting areas, so the first job is to sort your symptom into one of them.
- Selected textures look pink (often with black): This pattern points to missing or unreadable texture files. It is most often tied to a resource pack, a mod-style modification, or a damaged installation of a texture set, rather than to your hardware.
- The whole screen has a pink or washed-out tint: This is more likely a rendering or graphics-mode problem. Check your graphics settings and whether a recent update changed how the game draws the world.
- Pink appears only in one world: The cause may sit in that world’s packs or add-ons rather than in the game as a whole.
Step 1: Confirm your edition
Java Edition and Bedrock Edition use different systems for customizing visuals, and Minecraft Help gives each a different path. Before you change anything, confirm which edition you are running. The fixes below are separated by edition for that reason.
Java Edition: restoring missing textures
If selected textures are wrong on Java Edition, Minecraft Help publishes a dedicated guide titled Restore Missing Textures in Minecraft: Java Edition, listed on its Video & Graphics Support index. Follow that guide’s steps as written, since they are specific to the current Java build. Use it first before removing packs or reinstalling, so you know which change actually resolved the problem.

Bedrock Edition: a first-line check
For Bedrock, Minecraft Help’s graphics troubleshooting article recommends a short sequence, in this order:
- Update Minecraft to the latest version available for your device.
- Update the operating system.
- On Windows, check for graphics-driver updates and confirm your computer meets Minecraft’s stated minimum requirements.
- If the problem persists, turn off add-ons and adjust the video settings, then test again.
Test after each step rather than changing several things at once. If the pink disappears after an update, you have a clear answer; if it disappears only after you turn off add-ons, move on to the add-on process below.

Isolating a Bedrock add-on conflict
Minecraft Help notes that multiple add-ons can conflict and produce visual problems. Its guidance is to isolate them one at a time rather than remove everything at once.
- Back up your world first. Disabling add-ons can change what is in the world, so keep a copy before you test anything.
- Create a new world with no add-ons to check whether the pink appears there. If it does not, an add-on is the likely cause.
- Disable one resource or behavior pack at a time, then reload the world and check the display after each change.
- Re-enable add-ons in a set order until the pink returns, which identifies the one causing it.
Be aware of what disabling does. A disabled add-on is not deleted from your device’s storage, but mobs it added can be removed from the world and its blocks can be replaced. If you want to keep those elements, use the backup from step one as your restore point.

Checking Vibrant Visuals and graphics presets
Vibrant Visuals is a Bedrock graphics mode, and its use depends on your system meeting its requirements. Minecraft Help’s article on Vibrant Visuals describes two points that matter here:
- Save and exit the active world before changing the graphics setting, otherwise the change may not apply cleanly.
- Vibrant Visuals may be unavailable if your system does not meet its requirements or if an incompatible add-on is active. The article suggests switching to the Simple or Fancy presets if advanced graphics do not work.
Not every pink display involves this setting. Try it only if the problem appeared after a graphics change or the whole screen is affected.

When to contact Minecraft Support
If the edition-specific guidance and the safe checks above do not fix the problem, contact Minecraft Support. Include your edition, device and operating system, the game version, whether the pink affects selected textures or the whole screen, and what changed just before it started. That information is the fastest route to a useful answer.
Nothing in the official guidance links this symptom to a hardware fault, so do not buy a graphics card, monitor, or cable as a first response. Work through the software checks before considering any hardware change.
