Usually, YouTube is not set to repeat your live broadcast: its video and playlist Loop control repeats playback, not an active livestream. If your podcast recording stops while the broadcast stays live, check the repeat setting on the media source or playlist in your encoder. If the broadcast itself ends, check the encoder connection and stream start/stop settings.
“Not looping” can also mean viewers cannot rewind a live stream, or that an ended stream did not become a replay. Those are separate features with separate fixes.
First identify what is not looping
- The recording stops, but the broadcast remains live: inspect the encoder’s media source or playlist repeat behavior.
- The live broadcast ends: check whether the encoder stopped sending content, someone ended the stream in Live Control Room, or auto-start/auto-stop settings are affecting the workflow.
- Viewers cannot rewind or resume: check DVR and the stream’s duration.
- You expected the ended broadcast to start again as a replay: check for an archive in YouTube Studio. An archive is a video, not a new live broadcast.
YouTube’s Loop control is for a video or playlist watched on the platform, not for making an active live broadcast repeat. YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists describe playback controls, not a live-feed loop switch.
If the podcast recording stops while the stream stays live
- Open the encoder or streaming software that is sending the podcast to YouTube, and check the media source or playlist containing the recording.
- Confirm the intended file is still available and that the playlist contains the right item or items.
- Enable or verify that source’s repeat or playlist-loop behavior. The exact control depends on the encoder or software; YouTube Studio does not provide a general “loop live stream” switch.
- Watch playback reach the end of the file and confirm it returns to the beginning or advances as intended.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor both audio and video. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and monitoring the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how the encoder sends content to the stream, but the repeat control is software-specific.
If the preview shows the recording stopping too, the issue is likely with the source or its repeat behavior rather than viewer playback. If the preview continues but viewers report a different result, compare what they are watching and whether they are viewing the live feed or an archive.

If the live broadcast ends
A livestream is a real-time broadcast. Repeating the media inside an encoder and keeping the broadcast session open are different tasks. YouTube says an encoder sends the feed using the stream URL and key; a broadcast can end when content stops arriving from the encoder, or when it is ended in Live Control Room.
- Check whether the encoder stopped sending content or lost its connection.
- Check whether someone ended the stream in Live Control Room.
- Review the stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings against the workflow you want. YouTube says, “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” These are start/stop controls, not media-loop controls. See Manage live stream settings.
If you want a continuous broadcast, the encoder must keep sending a valid feed and the stream must not be ended. A recording set to repeat cannot, by itself, restart a broadcast session after that session has ended.

If viewers cannot rewind or resume
DVR is the live-viewing feature for pausing, rewinding, and resuming; it does not repeat the podcast or restart the broadcast. YouTube describes it this way: “The YouTube’s DVR feature lets your viewers pause, rewind, and continue during the live stream.” Review Turn on DVR on live streams to check whether DVR is enabled.
There are limits: viewers cannot seek to before the broadcast began, and on very long streams DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If you change the DVR setting during a live stream, YouTube says the change applies only to viewers who start watching after the change.

If you expected an ended stream to become a replay
Check YouTube Studio’s Live content for an archive, then check its visibility. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive of the finished event, not a new live session. See Archive live streams.
If an archive is available, viewers can use the platform’s video repeat control where supported. That control repeats the video playback; it does not relaunch the livestream. YouTube explains the difference between live streams and videos in its live streaming overview.
