Roblox may look low quality because its graphics setting is low or automatically adjusted for your device. Raise the in-game Graphics Quality setting first; if the picture still looks wrong, or the game becomes choppy, check whether the problem is graphics, device performance, or your connection.
Raise Roblox’s graphics quality setting
Roblox supports automatic graphics quality and manual control. Automatic lets the device manage quality; Manual lets you choose it with a slider. A higher slider setting can improve visual detail, but it also asks more of your device.
- Join an experience and open the Roblox menu with the Roblox logo or the Esc key.
- Open Settings and find Graphics Mode.
- If it is set to Automatic, switch to Manual.
- Move the Graphics Quality slider to the right, then compare the picture in the same experience.
These are Roblox Support’s general menu directions; the interface may vary by platform. If raising the setting makes play choppy, move it left or restore Automatic. Roblox explains that lower graphics settings reduce some image quality while asking less of the device, which may improve play (Graphics Quality; How to Reduce Lag and Speed Up Play).
Identify what “low quality” looks like
The symptom helps narrow down the cause. Roblox distinguishes graphics lag, network lag, and general system strain; they can feel similar but call for different checks.

These are possible explanations, not a diagnosis. Roblox lists outdated graphics drivers, unsupported graphics cards, insufficient feature-level support, and changed settings among possible causes of computer graphics problems (Graphics Problems on Computers).
Check computer compatibility before considering an upgrade
For the Roblox application on Windows, Roblox’s current computer requirements call for DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support. For best performance, Roblox recommends a computer less than five years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than three years old with integrated graphics. These are Roblox’s recommendations, not proof that an older device or integrated graphics is causing a particular player’s problem.

Roblox also lists a minimum connection speed of 4–8 Mb/s for a single-use household. That is internet guidance, not a graphics-quality threshold. Review the full computer hardware and operating system requirements for the applicable platform.
- Close unnecessary high-power apps before changing hardware; other apps can compete for system resources.
- On a computer, check that graphics drivers are up to date and the graphics hardware supports the required features.
- Consider a hardware upgrade only if the device is inadequate after these checks. Roblox’s general recommendations cannot establish that an upgrade will fix an individual issue.
Roblox’s computer-specific graphics troubleshooting applies to computers; these requirements should not be assumed to diagnose a console or mobile-device issue.

Choose a setting that fits your device
There is no universally best setting: the useful choice depends on whether you prioritize detail or smooth play.

Roblox Creator Hub also describes performance, balanced, and quality optimization preferences for manual graphics quality, but these are developer-facing concepts—not separate player controls available in every interface. The preference has no effect when graphics quality is automatic (GraphicsOptimizationMode; GraphicsMode).
