Roblox’s default client frame-rate cap is 60 FPS. On Windows, Roblox documents a built-in Maximum Frame Rate setting that can raise the cap to 240 FPS. If the game still runs at 60—or below—after you change it, check the client’s actual frame rate, your computer’s performance, and your display’s refresh rate; they are separate limits.
What a 60 FPS cap means in Roblox
Roblox Creator Hub documents 60 FPS as the default client cap and says Windows users can raise it to 240 FPS. That is a cap, not a performance guarantee: selecting a higher value allows the client to render more frames if the computer can keep up. Roblox’s performance guidance also distinguishes the player’s client frame rate from server heartbeat, which Roblox caps at 60 FPS for all games. Server heartbeat is a server-side measure; it does not by itself explain a client held at 60 FPS.
There are three different ceilings to keep separate: Roblox’s client setting, the frame rate your CPU and GPU can produce in a particular experience, and the refresh rate of your display. A 60 Hz display updates 60 times per second, so it cannot show the full benefit of a frame rate above 60. Microsoft explains how Windows lists and changes supported refresh rates.
How to raise Roblox’s frame-rate cap on Windows
- Join an experience and open the in-game Roblox menu.
- Choose Settings.
- Find Maximum Frame Rate and select a value above 60 if the control is available.
- Return to the experience and check the actual client FPS with Shift+F5.
Roblox introduced the in-game setting for Windows PC players on May 30, 2024. At launch, the listed choices were Default (60 FPS), 60 FPS, 120 FPS, 144 FPS, and 240 FPS; treat that list as historical context and use the choices shown in your current client. In its announcement, Roblox recommended the in-game control instead of an external unlocker: Introducing the Maximum Framerate setting.

The documented 240 FPS maximum applies to Windows. The launch announcement said Mac support was planned, but the cited current documentation does not establish a maximum for every Mac, mobile, or console configuration. Do not assume the Windows limit or menu options apply to those platforms.
If Roblox stays at 60 FPS or runs below your selected cap
Check what the client is actually rendering
Press Shift+F5 in the Roblox client to view debug statistics, as Roblox recommends. If the reported FPS fluctuates below your selected maximum, the setting may not be the bottleneck. Roblox notes that performance varies widely by device and that CPU or GPU workload can limit frame rate. A demanding experience can therefore fall short of the cap even when the setting is correct.

Verify the Windows display refresh rate
- Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.
- Select the display you use for Roblox.
- Check the selected refresh rate and choose a higher listed rate if your display supports one.
Windows only offers refresh rates supported by the selected display. If it is set to 60 Hz, the screen updates 60 times per second, regardless of whether Roblox renders more frames. Check the Roblox cap and the computer’s capability before considering a monitor purchase.
Consider power mode on a Windows 11 laptop
When available, Windows 11’s Settings > System > Power & battery > Power mode menu includes Best performance. This can be a reasonable secondary check if the laptop is not delivering the performance you expect, but Microsoft’s power-mode guidance does not establish it as a specific fix for Roblox being fixed at 60 FPS. What if Maximum Frame Rate is missing?
First confirm that you are checking the Windows client, where Roblox documents the option. If the control is still absent, treat it as a client or configuration issue to investigate rather than proof that all Roblox players have lost the feature. A May 2026 community post by an individual player reported that the option to set Maximum Frame Rate above 60 was missing and described the client as locked at 60. That single report establishes that one player encountered the problem, not its prevalence or a universal workaround: the individual community report.

Roblox recommends its in-game setting rather than an external unlocker. The third-party Roblox FPS Unlocker project documentation says the tool removes the 60 FPS limit but does not boost performance; a computer must already be capable of exceeding 60 FPS to benefit. Its documentation also notes antivirus detections. An unlocker is not a way to make a CPU- or GPU-limited system render faster, and the cited sources do not establish external unlockers as officially supported or risk-free.

Which limit should you troubleshoot?
| What is limiting you? | What to check | What the check can do |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox client cap | In-game Settings > Maximum Frame Rate on Windows | Raises Roblox’s documented default 60 FPS cap, up to 240 FPS on Windows. |
| Computer performance | Client FPS with Shift+F5; consider CPU and GPU workload | Helps identify whether the system is rendering below the chosen cap. Raising the cap does not increase the computer’s processing capacity. |
| Display refresh rate | Windows Settings > System > Display > Advanced display | Shows the selected display’s available refresh rates. A higher-refresh display can show more frequent updates if the rest of the setup can supply them. |
