If your Sims 4 household will not load, first note exactly what happens after you select it: an endless loading screen, a return to Manage Worlds, a crash, or an error message. Those symptoms do not establish one shared cause. If you use Mods or custom content—especially if the problem began after a game update—test with Mods disabled using EA’s safe procedure before trying other changes.
First, identify what is failing
Before changing files or removing content, establish the scope of the problem. These details help separate a household-specific issue from a broader loading failure, but they do not by themselves prove the cause.

- Does the game stay on an endless loading screen, return to Manage Worlds or world selection, crash, or show an error code?
- Does it affect one household or every household?
- Does it happen in one save or in multiple saves?
- Do you have Mods or custom content installed?
- Did it begin after a Sims 4 update?
Players have described both endless loading and returns to world selection in individual forum reports, sometimes in connection with particular patches. Those reports are examples of symptoms, not evidence that a current update has a universal bug or that one workaround applies to everyone.
If you use Mods or custom content
EA says Mods can prevent saves from loading, and a Mod that worked before can cause problems after a game update. A Mod-related issue is a possibility to test, not a diagnosis based on the loading symptom alone. EA’s The Sims 4: Mods, game updates, and error codes guide recommends checking compatibility with the current game version; creators may need time to update their Mods, and some may require a full reinstall.

Test gameplay with Mods disabled without risking a save
- Disable Mods and custom content, then launch the game.
- Use Resume or Load Game to check whether the household loads and gameplay works.
- If you are testing with Mods disabled, exit without saving before re-enabling them. EA warns that choosing Save and Exit first may remove custom content from the saved game.
- Check the creators’ sites for compatibility with your installed game version and follow their replacement or reinstall instructions.
- Re-enable Mods and test again.
If the household loads with Mods disabled but the problem returns after they are re-enabled, use EA’s batch method to find the item causing trouble.
Isolate a problem Mod with the 50/50 method
- Remove the Mods, then add back a batch and launch the game to test it.
- If the problem returns, split that batch into smaller groups and test again.
- Keep dividing the failing group until you identify the Mod associated with the failure.
- Test gameplay Mods first; EA notes they are more likely to cause issues than custom content. If needed, test custom content afterward.
Use trusted creators and check compatibility rather than assuming a Mod is safe or current. EA says it does not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or custom content.

If you do not use Mods, or the test changes nothing
The loading symptom alone does not establish that a save is corrupted, and the available support information does not identify a single cause for every household-loading failure. Keep the symptom and scope notes from the first section: whether you see an endless load, a return to world selection, a crash, or an error; whether one household or all households are affected; and whether the issue occurs in one save or several.
EA’s Sims 4 Help index lists guidance for backing up and resetting the game, but without the procedure details there is no verified reset sequence to recommend here. Avoid deleting or resetting game data based only on the phrase “family not loading.” If an error code appears, record it exactly and consult EA’s current help material for that code.
