Start by checking the sender’s gift history and delivery date, then check the recipient’s email and Steam notifications. If the gift is visible but cannot be redeemed, check for a regional restriction.
First, identify what is missing
“Not showing up” can mean different things: the sender cannot confirm the purchase, the recipient has no notification, the game is absent from the library, or a visible gift will not redeem. The steps below separate those cases. The sender can verify the purchase and delivery status; the recipient can check notifications and whether the gift was accepted.

Check whether the gift has been delivered
Steam lets the purchaser schedule a gift for delivery up to 12 months after purchase. Until its selected date, a scheduled gift remains in the sender’s Steam Inventory rather than appearing as a delivered gift to the recipient.
- Ask the sender to check the selected delivery date and look in their Steam purchase history for the gift.
- If it is scheduled for a future date, the sender can use Manage gift in purchase history to choose a different date.
- When Steam delivers the gift, it sends an email confirming delivery. Steam Gifts
Check both recipient notifications
For a completed gift delivery, Steam says the recipient receives an email and a gift notification in their Steam account. Check the email address associated with the Steam account, including any folders where messages may have been filtered, and look for the gift notification in the Steam client. Steam’s gift page can be opened through the “1 New Gift” notification. Accepting the gift adds the game to the recipient’s Steam library. Steam Gifts

Have the sender verify the gift record
If the sender is unsure whether the purchase went through, check Steam’s records rather than relying on a payment notification alone.
- Open Steam Inventory.
- Select the … menu and choose View Gift History.
- For a scheduled gift, open Account Details > View purchase history and locate the gift. The sender can manage its delivery date there.
If there is no matching record, Steam’s public gift instructions do not establish why. The sender should sign in to Steam Support and choose the relevant Purchases or Gifting option.

Check whether the gift is pending, accepted, declined, or expired
A delivered gift does not stay pending indefinitely. Steam gives the recipient 30 days after delivery to accept or decline it. If the recipient declines, Steam says the purchaser’s payment method is automatically refunded. If the recipient takes no action within 30 days, Steam says the purchase is automatically canceled and refunded. Once accepted, the game is added permanently to the account that redeemed it. If the gift is no longer pending, ask the sender to check gift history and confirm with the recipient whether it was accepted, declined, or left unanswered. A game already accepted will be in the library of the account that redeemed it.

If the gift appears but will not redeem, check region restrictions
Some gifts cannot be redeemed across certain purchase regions. Steam says applicable restrictions are shown at checkout and in the gift’s description in Steam Inventory; the countries included in regions can change.
