In Game Options > Other, enable both Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed, select Apply Changes, then fully quit and relaunch the game. If it still fails, check game-version compatibility and the mod’s installation path before troubleshooting conflicts.
1. Re-enable mods after a Sims 4 update
After an official game update, The Sims 4 automatically disables custom content and script mods. Turn both settings back on:
- Open Game Options > Other.
- Check Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed.
- Select Apply Changes.
- Close the game completely and relaunch it.
Enabling custom content alone is not enough for a script mod: Script Mods Allowed must also be checked.
2. Check whether your game build is supported
Compare the game version shown in the bottom-right corner of the main menu with the supported game version listed on TURBODRIVER’s official WickedWhims page. If the game has just received a major patch, the installed mod may be too old, or a compatible update may not be available yet. Check the creator’s page for an update; if none is listed for your game build, wait rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same outdated files.

3. Reinstall WickedWhims cleanly
When the installed version is outdated or files may have been overwritten, replace the old mod folder instead of installing over it. Back up your saves and Mods folder first. Download WickedWhims only from the official creator page, then remove the old WickedWhimsMod folder and install the fresh download according to its included instructions. Re-upload sites and third-party mirrors are not substitutes for the creator’s download.
4. Check the folder path and nesting depth
The game only loads a script file when it is no more than one folder deep inside Mods. A typical installation is:

Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods > WickedWhimsMod
Make sure the .ts4script file is directly in WickedWhimsMod, not buried in another folder within it. Extra nesting is a common reason for WickedWhims not appearing or for a “Script Call Failed” message. If your Documents folder is synced through OneDrive or another cloud service, syncing can interfere with the game’s mod files; disable cloud sync for Documents and check that the game is using the folder where you installed the mod.

5. Clear the game’s mod cache
Quit The Sims 4, then delete localthumbcache.package from Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. The game recreates this file when it launches. Removing it clears cached mod data that can persist after an update or reinstall.
6. Isolate script-mod and animation conflicts
An exception error can occur when WickedWhims is outdated, another script mod conflicts with it, or an installed animation pack is broken or incompatible. To identify a conflict, temporarily remove other script mods and animation packs, then test the game. Add them back in small batches, testing after each batch; the batch that brings the problem back narrows down the cause.

7. Confirm that WickedWhims loaded
Open the in-game mod list and look for both entries:
- TURBODRIVER_WickedWhims_Tuning under Custom Content.
- TURBODRIVER_WickedWhims_Scripts under Script Mods.
If either entry is missing, the game has not loaded the full installation. Recheck the two mod settings, supported game version, folder location and nesting depth, then reinstall if necessary.

8. Check for a required animation pack
A complete WickedWhims setup also needs at least one animation pack. If the mod files appear in the mod list but the setup is incomplete, install a compatible pack from its creator and follow that pack’s installation instructions.
When nothing else works
Back up your saves and Mods folder, then perform a full clean reinstall: remove the existing WickedWhims folder and any related files you added, download a fresh copy from TURBODRIVER’s official page, and install it without extra folder nesting. Test WickedWhims before restoring other script mods and animation packs. The available troubleshooting information does not establish statistics for how often each cause occurs, so use the checks above to isolate the cause rather than assuming one fix applies to every setup.
