If your World of Warcraft XP bar is missing, first check whether your character can still gain experience. The bar may be hidden or displaced in the interface, but a level cap or disabled XP gains can also explain why it is absent. If your character should still be earning XP, check Edit Mode before trying client troubleshooting.
First check whether your character can gain XP
A missing bar does not always mean the interface is broken. Your character may have reached the level cap that applies to its game mode or account, or XP gains may have been turned off. A player in a 2019 support discussion found that experience had been disabled through Slahtz; treat that as a clue to check your character’s XP status, not as confirmation that the same NPC or rules apply to every current mode. Expansion access and mode-specific rules can affect experience eligibility. The available community discussions do not establish a reliable current cap table, so check the current rules for your character and account through Blizzard rather than relying on an old forum post.
Look for a hidden or displaced bar
If the character is still eligible to earn XP, inspect the interface layout. A 2024 forum discussion suggested that the bar might have been moved or covered by another displayed progress bar. Read the community discussion.

- Open the game’s Edit Mode.
- Look for the experience bar in the layout, including behind or near other status and progress bars.
- If you find it displaced or obscured, move it to a visible location and save the layout.
Consider whether the issue is specific to a game mode or event
In a 2025 Legion Remix support thread, a player reported that the XP bar disappeared after level 71 but later said they could continue leveling. A Blizzard forum support response said characters above level 70 would need the upgrade to convert to standard characters, and that the missing bar was under investigation. This is evidence of a visual-bar problem in that particular Legion Remix situation—not proof that missing bars are visual-only in Retail, Classic, or other events. Legion Remix discussion.
A separate 2024 The War Within bug-report thread contains mixed player reports, including claims that a follower-dungeon workaround or a later login coincided with the bar or XP returning. The reports are inconsistent and date from the expansion’s launch period, so they do not establish a dependable fix for current clients. The War Within discussion.

If the bar should be there, try client troubleshooting
One player reported that resetting graphics settings brought the XP bar back. The post does not establish why it worked, and it is not a guaranteed or official fix. Consider it only after checking XP eligibility and the interface layout. The report is in this forum discussion.
