It is converting Classic Faces and Heads into Dynamic Heads and moving them into the Marketplace’s Heads category. Roblox says the change brings the catalog into line with its head policy and supports a more unified avatar system. The rollout began on March 23, 2026, according to Roblox’s migration update.
Why Roblox changed Classic Faces
Roblox says its Marketplace policy requires heads to let users express themselves and meet defined requirements for facial animation and the head’s cage region. Classic Faces and Heads were static, so Roblox says they did not meet those requirements. Converting them to Dynamic Heads applies the same standard across the catalog and, in Roblox’s stated aim, makes newer avatar capabilities available through a shared system.
The move also fits a longer-running effort to unify Roblox’s avatar technology. In an October 17, 2023 post, Roblox CTO Daniel Sturman described the friction of supporting two stacks: legacy R6, built around classic blocky avatars, and newer R15, designed to support a wider range of styles and capabilities. Roblox said unifying them would help avatars work across experiences and make newer features more consistently available. That is the company’s explanation for the technology direction, not a separate promise about how every experience will behave. Roblox’s 2023 explanation provides the earlier context.
Are Classic Faces gone, and where did they go?
Roblox’s March 23, 2026 update said the migration was rolling out that day. Converted Classic Heads and Faces would appear in the Marketplace and Editor under Heads, while the separate Classic Heads and Classic Faces categories would be removed. So the old catalog categories are going away; Roblox describes the assets as converted and recategorized, rather than simply erased.

Roblox aimed for close, potentially 1:1 visual parity with the old items and said it was refining converted assets and attachment points. That is a stated target, not a guarantee that every converted item will look exactly like its former face decal.
Can you turn off Dynamic Head animation?
Yes. Roblox’s March update says users can disable facial animation in the Marketplace or Editor’s Head Refinement tab. Roblox says the setting locks the head into an expression matching the original Classic Face—for example, a smirk—instead of switching to a neutral expression. Experiences can also use HumanoidDescription.StaticFacialAnimation.

Roblox also says users can choose among head shapes they own. Saved avatars retain both the selected head shape and the facial-animation setting, so a converted item does not require you to leave animation enabled or accept a different head shape.
What happens to Limited Faces and Heads?
Roblox says Limited Heads remain tradable and resellable after conversion, with their serial numbers and quantities preserved. Its January 29, 2026 update described a one-for-one conversion for Limited Classic Faces, matching serial numbers and keeping the same total number of copies; Roblox also said it would not add copies of existing Limited Dynamic Heads to the Marketplace.

Preserving an item’s supply and serial-number mechanics does not guarantee its resale price. Roblox’s statements describe how the collectibles are handled, not what buyers will pay.

Roblox says legacy asset-type requests for Face and Head through AvatarEditorService will return empty results from SearchCatalog and GetInventory. Developers whose experiences surface those categories need to update their catalog or inventory handling to account for the new Heads category.
