Fans ship Sidon with Link because Sidon is warm and openly enthusiastic, while Link is a quiet hero whose feelings are often left for players to interpret. That contrast makes their close, supportive bond appealing to some fans as a romance and to others as a friendship. The games do not confirm a romance between them; in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Sidon is engaged to Yona.
What does “shipping” Sidon and Link mean?
To “ship” characters is to enjoy or imagine them in a relationship. Sidon and Link’s pairing is often called Sidlink. The term describes a fan interpretation, not proof that a relationship is part of the games’ canon.
Why do some fans like Sidlink?
Sidon’s warmth contrasts with Link’s quietness
Sidon is outgoing and encouraging, and he makes his affection for Link easy to read. Link, by contrast, is a largely quiet protagonist whose inner life leaves room for players to supply their own interpretation. Some fans enjoy imagining what that difference might mean for a relationship.
Their bond can feel affectionate
In a 2023 Reddit discussion about the pairing, commenters offered different reasons for liking it: some pointed to Sidon’s extroverted personality and the contrast with Link; others described the appeal as a wholesome friendship they enjoy imagining as romantic. Is Sidon and Link’s relationship romantic in the games?
The cited scenes support a close friendship, but they do not confirm a romance. In Tears of the Kingdom, Sidon greets Link enthusiastically when they meet again, says he worried after hearing Link had gone missing, and invites him to visit. Those moments can read as affectionate and loyal; they do not, on their own, establish romantic intent. (Zelda Wiki’s Sidon reference)
That leaves room for more than one reading. Some players see a sweet romantic possibility in Sidon’s attention and their closeness; others understand the same moments as platonic friendship. The games do not explicitly define the bond in those scenes as a romance.

That is the game’s later canon context, while Sidlink remains a fan-created interpretation that people may enjoy in alternate scenarios or versions of the characters. Sidlink’s appeal comes down to character contrast, emotional warmth, and interpretive space: Sidon is openly glad to see Link, and Link’s quiet characterization lets fans imagine the feelings he does not voice. The same evidence can support a friendship reading or inspire a romantic one, without making the latter an established fact.
