India is listed as a location where YouTube channel memberships are available, but that does not guarantee membership gifting is enabled for a particular channel. First check whether your channel is eligible for and has activated memberships; then test gifting in an eligible live stream or Premiere. YouTube’s official guidance reviewed on October 3, 2026, does not specify a separate India-wide restriction or rollout for channel membership gifting.
Memberships and membership gifting are separate checks
Channel memberships let eligible channels offer recurring paid memberships. Membership gifting is a separate feature: viewers can give temporary memberships in the context of eligible live streams or Premieres, where the channel has gifting turned on. Being able to offer memberships does not, by itself, establish that gifting is enabled or that the gifting option will appear in every context.
Do not confuse membership gifting with YouTube’s separate Jewels-powered gifts feature. YouTube’s creator-availability information for Jewels-powered gifts lists India, but that does not establish membership-gifting availability in India.

Check that your channel is eligible for memberships
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Go to Earn → Memberships. YouTube says the Memberships tab appears only if the channel is eligible. If it is missing, investigate membership eligibility before treating this as a gifting-specific problem. See YouTube’s channel memberships setup guidance.
- Review the eligibility requirements. YouTube’s eligibility page accessed October 3, 2026, lists 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days for the lower YPP access tier that includes channel memberships. Other age, location, agreement and channel-content conditions apply. These thresholds can change, so confirm them on the current YouTube Partner Program eligibility page.
- Finish activation if the tab is available. Turn on memberships and accept the Commerce Product Module. YouTube says activation after YPP acceptance can take up to two days while it reviews eligibility.
Test gifting in the right context
YouTube’s instructions place the gifting purchase option in live chat during a live stream or Premiere on a channel where gifting is enabled. Check there rather than assuming that a missing option on a channel page, regular video, or other screen means the channel is excluded. The official membership gifting guidance also says viewers must opt in to receive gifts.

If YouTube cannot verify your country
If the message says “We couldn’t verify your country,” YouTube advises trying another network or device and checking whether a VPN or proxy is active. If you are using one, turn it off according to its provider’s instructions and try again. This is a country-verification troubleshooting step; it is not evidence that India is excluded from membership gifting. See YouTube’s billing and country-verification guidance.
What India availability does—and does not—tell you
YouTube’s channel-membership information lists India for memberships generally. The official pages reviewed do not provide a separate country list or confirm a distinct India-specific rollout for membership gifting. If memberships are active but gifting remains absent in an eligible live stream or Premiere, the available guidance does not establish a definitive India-specific cause. Check current prompts in Studio or contact YouTube support about your channel’s status rather than assuming a country-wide block.

YouTube also notes that recurring memberships in India may require payment-detail verification or re-entry under Reserve Bank of India eMandate requirements. That billing issue is relevant if you are troubleshooting a recurring payment, not by itself an explanation for a missing gifting control.
