He did not give a specific reason, saying only that he was “moving on from Treyarch.”
What Blundell said about leaving
In a statement reported by Game Developer, Blundell described his time at the studio as “thirteen fantastic, action-packed years” and said he was moving on. He added that he had worked on a variety of projects and that his time on the Zombies team was “quite special.” His statement did not explain why he was leaving.

Treyarch thanked Blundell for his contributions and wished him well, according to the same report. Neither statement gave a more specific explanation for the departure.
Who Jason Blundell was at Treyarch
Blundell was a Treyarch co-studio head and a producer and game director on Call of Duty releases. Game Developer reported that he joined the studio during development of Call of Duty 3 and worked on seven releases as a producer and game director.

He was especially associated with Zombies. PC Gamer cites his work directing two Black Ops II Zombies maps, Zombies and the campaign in Black Ops III, and Zombies in Black Ops 4.
Contemporaneous reports differ on when Blundell became co-head: Game Developer places the appointment in 2018, while PC Gamer says he had held the role since late 2016. Both reports identify him as a co-head when he departed, so the exact start date is uncertain.

Blundell’s departure was in 2020, not 2026
Blundell’s exit is a historical event from February 2020. It is separate from Treyarch’s later leadership change: in June 2026, studio head Mark Gordon retired, and Kevin Hendrickson and Yale Miller were named co-studio heads, as Game Developer reported.
Treyarch’s official site lists Black Ops 7 and Black Ops 6 among its games. That current studio context does not change the date or stated explanation of Blundell’s departure.
