FIFA 17 is reported to be his first appearance in the series, and his early card displayed that fuller surname. The exact reason EA chose that card label has not been confirmed in the available sources.
Is Lottin part of Kylian Mbappé’s real name?
Yes. FIFA’s official 2025 Club World Cup squad list records his last names as “Mbappé Lottin” while listing “Mbappé” as his name on shirt. Those are distinct fields: the first gives the fuller surname, while the second reflects the familiar name used on the shirt. FIFA’s 2025 squad list is a clear example of why “Lottin” can appear in a formal name field even though fans generally know him as Mbappé.
What was Mbappé’s first FIFA card?
MeriStation reported in August 2024 that FIFA 17 was Mbappé’s first appearance in the game, when he was 18. Its account describes a silver card rated 71 overall, with 81 pace, 64 shooting, 65 passing, 74 dribbling, 39 defending and 62 physical. These are the game ratings reported by MeriStation, not real-world statistics or independently verified EA data. MeriStation’s retrospective covers the card.
Why did the card say “Lottin”?
The supported explanation is that “Lottin” belongs to Mbappé’s fuller surname, so its appearance reflects a formal name rather than a separate identity. What the sources do not establish is why EA used that particular display on the FIFA 17 card—whether it came from a specific database field, naming rule or other game-data decision.

Corriere della Sera reported that an EA response attributed confusion to Mbappé’s full name when registering Italian commentary. That account concerns commentary registration; it does not confirm the reason “Lottin” appeared on his FIFA 17 card. Corriere della Sera’s report is therefore relevant context, not proof of the card-label rationale.

The FIFA 17 card discussed here was an in-game item, not necessarily a physical collectible. EA’s general explanation of FUT describes player items and their base and special versions, with examples from later FIFA games; it does not document why FIFA 17 used “Lottin” on Mbappé’s card. EA’s FUT item-rarity explainer provides that broader distinction.
