Bedrock 1.21.120 redesigned the menu players commonly call the pause menu. In the official release notes, it is the “Game Menu”; Minecraft confirms a new layout and design but does not explain why it changed. Some players object to having to navigate farther to see who is in their world, while others report mis-clicks after familiar options moved. Those posts document specific complaints, not a measured community-wide backlash.
What changed in Bedrock 1.21.120?
Minecraft’s Bedrock Edition 1.21.120 release notes, dated October 28, 2025, say the Game Menu “has a new layout and design.” The official Minecraft Feedback release notes repeat that description and point to a feedback thread about the change.

Minecraft did not give a design rationale in those notes. In particular, the official description does not say the redesign was intended to promote Marketplace purchases; claims about that motive are speculation based on the material available here.
The release page said the update would roll out to platforms as available during the day and could take up to 24 hours to appear for everyone. That was Minecraft’s rollout estimate, not a promise that all platforms updated simultaneously.

What are players objecting to?
Posts sampled from Reddit discussions in r/MinecraftBedrockers and r/Minecraft in October 2025 describe several practical frustrations. They are individual reactions, not a representative poll or a reliable measure of how many players object.
Finding out who is in the world takes another step
One recurring complaint is that players now have to open Social to see the player list. One Reddit user asked, “Why do I have to push a new button to see who’s online?” Other commenters objected that player and permission information was less immediately visible. This captures a navigation and visibility complaint; it does not establish how every player uses the menu.

Moved options can lead to mis-clicks
Some Reddit posts called the “new pause menu” “awful” and described accidentally selecting the newly placed Marketplace/Add-ons destination while trying to reach Settings. These accounts illustrate how a layout change can disrupt familiar muscle memory. They do not show that the placement was deliberate sales promotion or how often mis-clicks happen.
Is the scoreboard-list issue part of the redesign?
A Mojang Issue Tracker report, MCPE-230225, created October 30, 2025, says scoreboard objectives displayed with /scoreboard objectives setdisplay list no longer appeared in the player list after 1.21.120; the report links to related reports. This is an adjacent reported behavior, not an explanation of the menu design. The tracker’s status and resolution text is inconsistent, so it does not establish that the issue was fixed.

What can—and can’t—be concluded from the pushback?
The documented objections point to three usability concerns: the extra step to see who is online, less immediate access to player or permission details, and mistakes when people look for controls in their former positions. The cited posts offer no usability measurements, satisfaction survey, or statistic showing what share of Bedrock players dislikes the change. The evidence supports describing specific complaints, not claiming a consensus.
