Reports from PC players during the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta described launch failures, unsupported-GPU messages, connection trouble, and poor performance. Those reports show the kinds of problems players encountered, but they do not establish how widespread the issues were. Capcom’s key explanation is that the beta used older builds and was not representative of the full game’s optimization.
Why the open beta was difficult to run on some PCs
The beta was a work in progress, not a dependable performance preview. In its February 4, 2025 Steam announcement, Capcom said Open Beta Tests 1 and 2 used older builds and were not representative of the full game’s optimization at the time—or its later state. The company also said the beta was intended to test elements such as network load and that stable gameplay could not be guaranteed.
That context matters: a bad beta experience could reflect the specific build, a hardware or software compatibility issue, or a network problem. The available player reports do not let us assign one cause to every PC complaint, or estimate how many players had trouble.
What players reported, and what Capcom advised
Capcom’s October 31, 2024 troubleshooting thread acknowledged that the beta might not function correctly with some hardware and environment combinations. Community replies included reports of unsupported-GPU warnings and connection problems. They are examples of issues players raised, not a representative survey.

- Designed for experienced tabletop players seeking intense cooperative gameplay, advanced strategy, and meaningful long-term progression.
If the game reported an unsupported GPU
Capcom advised players to check the game’s system requirements and consider compatibility issues, including multi-GPU configurations. An unsupported message in the beta should not, by itself, be treated as proof that the same hardware would be unsupported by the released game.
If the game launched but ran poorly
For PCs meeting the minimum requirements but not the recommended ones, Capcom’s thread suggested lowering graphics settings. The advice was specific to the beta troubleshooting context; it does not guarantee that a setting change would fix every performance problem.
If the game would not launch
The support thread noted that antivirus software could interfere with some launch attempts. That is one possible cause, not a diagnosis for every failure. The thread also recognized broader compatibility issues across hardware and environments.

If the problem involved image artifacts or network play
Capcom’s beta announcement warned that frame generation could produce afterimage noise in certain Steam environments. It said the issue would be fixed in the full version. Separately, the company described network load as one of the beta’s testing purposes and cautioned that stable gameplay was not assured.

The current Steam support listing describes requirements and performance expectations for the full game, not results measured during the beta. It lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit, DirectX 12, broadband internet, 16 GB RAM, and 75 GB of available SSD storage in both minimum and recommended configurations.
| Full-game configuration | Listed graphics hardware | Stated performance expectation |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel or AMD CPU; NVIDIA or AMD GPU, as specified on the Steam Support listing | 1080p, upscaled from 720p native resolution, at 30 fps on Lowest settings |
| Recommended | RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600, alongside a listed Intel or AMD CPU | 1080p at 60 fps on Medium settings with frame generation enabled |
These are Capcom’s listed full-game estimates, not a promise that every system with the named parts will achieve the target in every scene. The support page is the place to check the complete CPU and GPU models and any changed requirements; the beta’s performance should not be substituted for those specifications.

Why Capcom pointed players to the benchmark
In its February 2025 Steam announcement, Capcom recommended the free Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark as a more useful near-launch indicator than the open betas. It runs a demonstration rather than a playable game segment, scores the PC, and takes around six minutes. Players can adjust settings and run it again to see how those changes affect the score.
Capcom explicitly cautioned that the benchmark does not guarantee full-game performance. It is still a more relevant comparison than an older beta build, but its score is not equivalent to testing a playable scene. For a useful comparison, record the game build and date, PC hardware, resolution, graphics settings, upscaling and frame-generation settings, and whether the result came from a playable scene or the benchmark demonstration. Average frame rate alone can also hide uneven frame times.
What later PC updates do—and do not—tell us
Windows Central reported that Capcom released PC patch Ver. 1.040.03.01 on January 27, 2026. The report relayed user observations including improved 1% lows, lower reported VRAM use, and higher frame rates in some cases, alongside additional graphics options. It also described reports of CPU bottlenecks that persisted after the patch.
Those are user-attributed observations reported by a secondary outlet, not controlled results that establish a uniform improvement across PCs. They provide later context for the game’s PC performance, but cannot quantify how many players struggled during the earlier beta or explain every beta-era problem.
