What happened in the Switch 2 livestream chat?
Nintendo Treehouse: Live showed gameplay following Nintendo’s Switch 2 pricing announcement. Contemporary reports described viewers repeatedly filling the chat with “Drop the price” and “DROP THE PRICE,” even as different games were being demonstrated. Game*Spark and ComicBook.com both covered the comments.

That makes the incident a visible backlash during a product presentation. It does not establish what all viewers—or Switch 2 customers—thought, and chat activity alone cannot show whether people bought the system or predict its sales.
Was 99% of the chat really saying “Drop the price”?
Jeuxvideo.com described the phrase as appearing “99% of the time” in chat, but its report does not give a message count, sampling window, method, or archived chat dataset. Treat that figure as the publication’s impression of the stream, not a verified percentage of comments or viewers. Jeuxvideo.com retained the English phrase while translating the demand as “baisser le prix.”

TechRadar also reported that the stream began at around 120,000 viewers and later had just over 89,000 during its coverage. Those are reporter observations, not evidence that price complaints represented all viewers or caused the audience to change. TechRadar
Why were viewers calling for lower prices?
The complaints concerned the cost of both the console and games. The April 2025 reports cited a U.S. Switch 2 price of $449.99 and a U.S. digital price of $79.99 for Mario Kart World. In France, Jeuxvideo.com reported Mario Kart World at €79.99 digital and €89.99 physical. These are contemporaneous, market-specific reported prices, not current retail quotes. The repeated messages show that price concerns were prominent in the livestream chat while gameplay was on screen. They do not quantify how common that view was among viewers, establish the opinions of buyers, or demonstrate an effect on sales. The reports cited here do not provide a relevant named-person statement or an official Nintendo response to the chat.
