Obsidian temporarily removed several game titles and editions from digital storefronts in October 2025 while preparing security updates for a vulnerability affecting games that use Unity. The company described the removals as a precaution, not a response to Unity’s Runtime Fee controversy.
Why did Obsidian remove games from sale?
Obsidian’s notice, dated October 3, 2025, said a security vulnerability affecting its Unity-using games had been identified. The studio said it was implementing necessary updates and would restore the games as soon as possible. GameSpot and Insider Gaming reproduced the notice; a direct link to Obsidian’s original post was not available in their reporting.

GameSpot reported that the vulnerability could allow local code execution and access to confidential information on devices running affected Unity-built applications. According to that report, Unity patched the issue on October 2, 2025, recommended developers rebuild applications with updated Unity versions, and said there was no evidence of user impact. These technical details are reported by GameSpot; the available material does not independently establish them from a direct Unity advisory.

The affected listing did not necessarily mean that every part of each game was made with Unity. GameSpot reported that Avowed itself uses Unreal Engine 5, while its Premium Edition includes a digital artbook made with Unity. The report did not establish whether Grounded 2’s artbook was made with Unity.
Was the removal caused by Unity’s Runtime Fee?
No. The 2025 delisting was reported as a precautionary response to a software vulnerability. Unity’s Runtime Fee was a separate pricing-policy issue, and Unity canceled it effective September 12, 2024.

Are the games back on sale?
Obsidian said it intended to restore the games after implementing updates, but the cited reporting does not verify that every affected product had returned to every storefront. Availability can differ by edition and store, so check the relevant storefront listing for the specific product before assuming it is currently purchasable.
