If Pokémon TCG Pocket keeps crashing, start with the basics: check your connection and free storage, close other apps, restart your device, then clear the app cache without deleting save data. Pokémon Support has also acknowledged a pack-opening crash on two specific Motorola models; that issue does not explain crashes on every device.

Try these steps if Pokémon TCG Pocket crashes or will not open

Pokémon Support recommends the following general troubleshooting steps. Try them in order, reopening the game after each one.

  1. Check your connection. Make sure the internet connection is stable. Try another network or try again later if the current connection is unreliable.
  2. Check available storage. Ensure the device has free space for the app and its save files. If storage is low, free up space and restart the app.
  3. Close other apps and restart. Close other open apps, then reopen Pokémon TCG Pocket. If it still will not start, restart the device.
  4. Clear the cache, taking care not to erase data. On Android, the FAQ gives this path: Settings > Apps > Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket > Storage & cache > Clear cache. Menu labels can vary by device. On the game’s title screen, players with an account linked to another platform can also use the menu in the upper-right to clear the app cache and confirm the prompt. Do not select an option that deletes app data or save data.
  5. Contact customer service if the problem continues. Pokémon Support recommends contacting support when these steps do not resolve the issue; its general crash guidance does not list repeated reinstalling as a first-line fix.

These are general troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed fix: Pokémon Support does not identify one cause for every freeze or crash. See its Pokémon TCG Pocket Technical Troubleshooting FAQ for its current guidance.

Is the crash happening while you open a pack?

Pokémon Support’s notice, updated September 3, 2026, identifies a specific issue: Pokémon TCG Pocket may force-close when opening packs on the Motorola Edge 50 Pro and Motorola Edge 50s Pro. The notice says the cards are still obtained even if the app closes during the opening. Check My Cards to confirm they are there.

Pokémon said it was investigating the issue in that notice. It does not establish that other Motorola models, other devices, or crashes with different triggers share the same cause. The notice is available at Pokémon TCG Pocket Issue Affecting Certain Devices (July 2026).

What if a crash interrupts a versus match?

Pokémon’s gameplay FAQ says you can attempt to rejoin a versus match within around 120 seconds of a crash or disconnection. If you do not reconnect within that approximate window, you lose the match. The FAQ does not say that the general cache or storage steps can restore a match after the reconnection period. See the Pokémon TCG Pocket Gameplay FAQ.

Does a phone that meets the requirements rule out compatibility problems?

No. Pokémon’s gameplay FAQ, updated July 30, 2026, lists these recommended specifications:

Platform Recommended specifications listed by Pokémon Support
iPhone or iPad iPhone X or later; iOS 15 or later or iPadOS 15 or later; at least 3 GB of RAM.
Android Android 7.0 or later; Vulkan support; 64-bit; at least 3 GB of RAM; Snapdragon 845 or later, or similar GPU performance.

These are the FAQ’s recommended specifications, not a diagnosis of any particular crash. Pokémon also says operation is not guaranteed on every device that meets them: performance, specifications, operating conditions, and newly released operating systems can affect proper operation. It notes that devices modified outside the manufacturer’s warranty may not launch the app, and that support for a newly released OS may take time.

Is a login error the same as a crash?

No. If the problem is specifically login error 102-002-007, Pokémon Support says it typically relates to the current network environment. Its suggestions for that error are to disable a VPN, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular or try another network, restart the Wi-Fi router, close background apps, and restart the device. Pokémon does not recommend connecting through a VPN. These steps are scoped to that login error, not to crashes in general. See the technical troubleshooting FAQ.
