Roblox sued YouTuber Ruben Sim, whose legal name is Benjamin Robert Simon, over alleged harassment, ban evasion and threat-related conduct. The parties later stipulated to a court order imposing a $150,000 judgment and permanent restrictions. Roblox had initially sought $1.6 million, but the case ended in a stipulated resolution—not a trial verdict proving every allegation.
Why did Roblox sue Ruben Sim?
Roblox Corporation filed suit against Simon on November 23, 2021, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Its complaint alleged that Simon repeatedly evaded platform bans, harassed Roblox users and employees, and published posts concerning a terrorist threat at the 2021 Roblox Developers Conference. Roblox further alleged that the posts contributed to a temporary lockdown and security response. Those accounts were allegations made by Roblox in its complaint, not findings after a trial. The complaint asserted claims under the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, California’s computer data access law, breach of contract, fraud and tortious interference. The claims describe Roblox’s legal theories; the filing itself does not establish that the alleged conduct occurred as pleaded.

The parties described their agreement as a resolution of their dispute. The stipulated order says: “The parties further stipulate to entry of this Stipulated Order for Injunction, Monetary Relief, and Final Judgment (“Order”) to resolve all matters in dispute in this action between them.” The case docket.

Did Ruben Sim have to pay Roblox $1.6 million?
No. The stipulated monetary judgment was $150,000, according to the final stipulated order. The $1.6 million figure was the amount Roblox initially sought, as Ars Technica reported on January 22, 2022; it was not the final judgment.
In its complaint, Roblox requested at least $150,000 in actual damages and $1.5 million in punitive and exemplary damages. Those were requested amounts, not sums awarded by the final order. The complaint’s prayer for relief.

What did the court order Simon to do—or not do?
The stipulated order permanently restrained Simon from specified conduct. It was not a blanket prohibition on all speech about Roblox. Its restrictions included:
- Making, publishing or republishing false threats of terrorist activity relating to Roblox.
- Knowingly making false statements of fact about Roblox.
- Glamorizing or encouraging violence against Roblox, its employees or its facilities.
- Accessing the Roblox Platform, except for public portions of the website that do not require an account.
- Knowingly approaching within 100 feet of a Roblox office, facility or residence.
The order also stated that Simon waived his right to appeal or otherwise contest it, and that each side would bear its own costs and attorney fees. These are terms of the parties’ stipulated order, not separate findings that every allegation in Roblox’s complaint was true. Stipulated Order for Injunction, Monetary Relief, and Final Judgment.

Was the case a trial verdict?
No. The court granted the parties’ stipulation; the case did not produce a trial verdict establishing every allegation. Ars Technica noted that the resolution did not establish legal precedent. The distinction matters: the complaint records what Roblox alleged, while the order records restrictions the parties agreed to and the court entered.
