Russian is currently marked unsupported on Starfield’s Steam listing. Reporting in April 2023 traced its removal from the listing to that month, but neither that reporting nor the official language documentation establishes why Bethesda made the change.
Does Starfield support Russian on Steam?
No. Steam’s current listing marks Russian as unsupported and shows nine supported languages, with different levels of text, subtitle, and voice coverage. Bethesda’s own published language list also does not include Russian.

Bethesda divides its listed languages into two groups. Its support page says English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), and Japanese have full text-and-voice localization. Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), and Simplified Chinese are listed for interface and text support. That distinction matters: the nine languages are not all listed as having full voice localization.
When did Russian disappear from the Steam listing?
Contemporaneous reports place the listing change in April 2023; they describe changes to Steam’s supported-language information, not an announcement from Bethesda.

- PC Gamer reported that the Steam page still listed Russian on March 29, 2023, based on archived page history.
- PC Gamer said SteamDB’s change record showed Russian and Russian subtitles removed from the supported-language list on April 11.
- Vedomosti reported on April 20 that Russian had disappeared from the list in mid-April.
PC Gamer’s April 14 report said Bethesda had not publicly explained the removal at that time. The available sources do not establish Bethesda’s reason, so political, commercial, or technical explanations should not be treated as fact.

No. Steam’s language selector lets you choose among the options available for the game; changing it does not add Russian to Starfield’s supported-language list.

- Log in to Steam and open your Library.
- Right-click Starfield and choose Properties.
- Open the Language tab and choose an available language from the dropdown.
- Allow any required language files to download. Bethesda notes that files may need to download before audio options can be changed.
- Where a voice-language option is available, open the game’s Settings > Audio menu to change it.
These steps apply to listed options; they do not restore Russian support.
