Some Dying Light: The Beast players say ordinary biter grabs feel “magnetic” because they can interrupt an attack and seem to connect from an unexpectedly long or hard-to-read approach. That is a complaint voiced in a Steam discussion, not evidence that most players agree or that the game has a confirmed hitbox bug. Techland acknowledged feedback in September 2025 and announced planned grab adjustments for a future hotfix; that announcement alone does not confirm the changes shipped.
What players mean by “magnetic” grabs
In a Steam discussion dated September 21, 2025, players described grabs that seem to override an attack already in progress, including a charged or heavy weapon swing. Some also said biters could grab from outside their field of view or from a distance, making the move feel poorly telegraphed. They described the repeated interruption as breaking combat momentum. Read the Steam discussion.
“Magnetic” is player shorthand for perceived reach, tracking, frequency or readability. The discussion does not provide hitbox measurements or a developer-confirmed explanation of how grab detection works, so it cannot establish a specific technical fault. Nor does one thread show how widespread the frustration is.
Why the complaint is disputed
The same discussion includes players who see grabs as a counterplay or timing challenge: they point to learning when to react, using weapon reach, or breaking a grapple. Other players object that countering does not erase the interruption itself, or the annoyance of a grab that seems to begin unexpectedly. These are contrasting player experiences, not a universal measure of how difficult or fair the encounter is.

A separate Steam discussion, also dated September 21, 2025, reports that kicking can break grapples and mentions an unlockable counter skill. Treat that as community advice and a player report, not a guarantee that a particular move is available or works the same way in every current build. See the grapple-counter discussion.
What Techland said it planned to change
In a developer update on September 27, 2025, Techland said it had seen comments about zombie grabbing and announced three planned adjustments, intended to keep biters aggressive while making encounters fairer:
Rank #2
- Damage would begin later after a grab.
- The first alerted biter would be less likely to open with a grab.
- A biter attempting a grab from a distance would make the attempt slightly more obvious.
Techland said the changes were coming in a future hotfix. The announcement documents plans, not their release. Read Techland’s developer updates.

The official patch-note index lists Anniversary Update 1.7, dated September 17, 2026. The index information available here does not establish whether that update, or an intervening patch, included the three grab changes. It therefore does not support calling the issue fixed, still unfixed, or unchanged in the current build. Check the detailed notes for your version before relying on the 2025 plans as a description of current gameplay.
