Most copies should not be valued by that outlier. The edition, platform, condition, packaging, grading and any included code all matter.
What sold for $42,500?
Heritage Auctions recorded a $42,500 sale on November 21, 2025, for a specific 2017 USA Xbox One Gearbox edition of Fortnite. The copy was factory-sealed, included the Storm Master Weapon Pack and received a Wata 10 A++ grade. Heritage Auctions’ lot record identifies the item and result. [c2]

That combination is crucial: the figure applies to one sealed, exceptionally graded copy with its identified contents. It is not evidence that an ordinary opened disc, or every copy of the game, is worth thousands. GamesRadar’s November 28, 2025 report described ordinary used Xbox One copies in recent eBay listings at roughly $40–$70. That is a reported asking-price range, not a verified average of completed sales or a guaranteed current valuation. [c4]
Why can an early Fortnite disc attract collectors?
It comes from an earlier chapter of the game
The physical retail release dates to the 2017 Save the World era, before Fortnite became most widely associated with its later Battle Royale success. The relevant console editions were for Xbox One and PS4; contemporary reporting also noted a European PC physical release. That timing gives an original boxed copy historical interest for some collectors. [c2] [c5]

Condition and grading separate the record copy from everyday copies
A factory-sealed copy preserves its original packaging, while an opened copy has a different collectible profile. Professional grading adds another distinction: the auction record was not merely sealed, but assigned Wata’s top stated grade of 10 A++. The available evidence does not establish production-run numbers, so it does not support a quantified claim that the release was limited or a precise scarcity figure. [c2] [c4]
An included code may matter, but its status must be checked
Reporting points to the Early Access/Founders Pack code as a possible source of added collector interest when unused. That does not mean every box contains a valid unused code, or that a code advertised as unused has been independently verified. Confirm the exact edition and ask for evidence of the code’s presence and status; do not assume it can still be redeemed. [c2] [c4]

How much is an old Fortnite disc worth?
There is no single reliable value for “an old Fortnite disc.” The best-supported comparison in the cited coverage is GamesRadar’s roughly $40–$70 range for ordinary used Xbox One copies appearing in recent eBay listings as of its November 28, 2025 article. Listings show what sellers are asking, not what buyers actually paid. [c4]
For historical context, GameSpot reported in 2018 that physical PS4 and Xbox One copies were listed or selling for as much as $450. That reflects attention at that time; it is not a current price guide. [c1]

- No cartridge
- Note: To use this content, a full version of the game is required.
Price trackers and marketplace pages are snapshots. A displayed asking price is not proof of a completed transaction, and a single auction result does not establish a general market rate. For a more useful comparison, look for completed sales of copies matching the same platform, region, condition and contents. [c3]
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to compare before buying or selling
- Platform and region: Identify whether it is an Xbox One, PS4 or European PC release, and match the regional edition where possible.
- Sealed or opened: Check whether factory seals are intact and whether the condition is documented. Do not treat an opened disc as equivalent to the sealed auction copy.
- Completeness: Confirm the box, inserts and any edition-specific materials are present rather than relying on a listing title.
- Grade: If professionally graded, compare the grading company and grade. A high-grade sealed copy is not directly comparable to an ungraded used copy.
- Code status: Determine whether an included Early Access/Founders Pack code is present and demonstrably unused or valid; a seller’s claim alone may not establish redeemability.
- Evidence of price: Separate completed-sale records from active listings, and compare like with like rather than anchoring on the $42,500 outlier.
These checks help explain why two copies described simply as “Fortnite” can have very different asking prices. They are practical comparison factors, not a formal appraisal formula.
