Why Space Marine 2 Doesn’t Let Every Class Use Every Chaos Legion’s Armor

The Focus Team explained why Chaos Legion armor is not freely available to every class in Space Marine 2—and what Patch 15’s Chaos PvE mode does and doesn’t change.

Space Marine 2’s Chaos customization is restricted because the Focus Team says a Legion’s armor cannot be freely matched to every class without running into lore, model-fit and PvP readability problems. The team gave the example of a sniper wearing World Eater armor. Chaos Space Marines later became playable in the free Chaos Siege PvE mode added with Patch 15, but that update does not confirm that the older class-by-Legion armor restrictions were removed.

What restriction did the Focus Team explain?

The question was whether players could choose a Chaos Space Marine Legion for every class—not simply whether Chaos characters would appear in the game. In a September 18, 2024 community Q&A, the Focus Team said that players could not freely assign every Legion’s armor to every class.

Its example was direct: “There are many lore restrictions preventing us from doing this (For instance: We cannot make a sniper with a World Eater armor).” The statement is attributed to the Focus Team; the Q&A does not identify a specific developer as its author. Read the Focus Team’s September 18, 2024 Q&A.

Why not let players mix any Legion and class?

Lore fit

The Focus Team cited lore restrictions and used the World Eater sniper as its example of a combination it would not make. That is the team’s explanation for its design choice, not a claim that every player-created combination is universally impossible under Warhammer lore.

Armor fit and visual style

Chaos armor pieces are not all built to fit together as interchangeable parts. The team said they differ in size and style and can clip through one another when combined. That limits how freely the pieces can be mixed even before considering which class wears them.

Class recognition in PvP

In competitive play, opponents need to recognize a character’s class. The Focus Team also pointed to class identity and visual clarity as reasons to limit combinations. A system that allows every Legion’s appearance on every class could make that recognition harder.

Will Chaos customization expand?

The Focus Team said it wanted to expand Chaos customization, while warning that it expected it to remain less modular than Loyalist customization. That is a direction, not a promise that every Legion’s armor will become available to every class. The Q&A does not specify a schedule or list particular combinations that would be added.

What has changed in later updates?

In its October 1, 2026 Year 3 kickoff announcement, Focus Entertainment said Patch 15 added the free Chaos Siege mode, where players can control Chaos Space Marines in PvE. The announcement establishes that Chaos is playable in that mode; it does not say that players can equip every Legion’s cosmetics on every class. Treat the mode and the class-by-Legion customization question as separate features. See Focus Entertainment’s October 1, 2026 Patch 15 announcement.

What to expect from Chaos classes

There is now an official Chaos PvE mode, but the latest cited announcement does not connect it to a broader overhaul of class-by-Legion customization. The clearest expectation remains the one the Focus Team gave in 2024: Chaos customization may expand, but is expected to be less modular than Loyalist customization. New classes also involve more than their basic design; the team cited customization, a PvP Chaos model variant and animation sets as production work.
