The Bilibili version fans highlighted is Rockstar’s original Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1, not a new trailer. Reports point to a higher-bitrate upload than versions on YouTube and X, which can preserve more image detail—but they do not establish that it has a higher pixel resolution.
What fans found on Bilibili
Rockstar’s first GTA VI trailer was uploaded to Bilibili in December 2023, according to RockstarINTEL. It attracted wider attention around the end of December 2024, when fans discussed a version reported to have a higher bitrate than the trailer uploads on YouTube and X, as Push Square reported.
That timing matters: the story is about renewed attention to an existing Trailer 1 upload, not the release of another trailer. RockstarINTEL says one fan used Bilibili Premium to view and download the higher-quality version. Current availability, regional restrictions and subscription terms have not been confirmed.
Why the Bilibili trailer can look sharper
Bitrate is the amount of data used to encode video over time. A higher bitrate can reduce compression artifacts and retain more fine detail, so an encode may look cleaner even if its nominal pixel resolution is the same. “Higher resolution” is the common shorthand for this discovery, but the available reporting supports a bitrate difference—not proof of a higher-resolution source file.

AS/MeriStation reported approximate bitrates of 10,000 kbps for the YouTube version and 17,000 kbps for the Bilibili version. Those are that publication’s reported figures, not official platform specifications or independently reproduced measurements. Push Square described fans pointing to details such as stretch marks and arm hair; RockstarINTEL also relayed Digital Foundry commentary that reflections were easier to inspect. These are reported observations, not a comprehensive comparison of every frame.
How to compare the Bilibili and YouTube versions
A fair comparison requires more than opening two players and judging which looks better. Playback settings, source files and whether you are watching a stream or a download can affect the result. Compare the same frame, with playback quality set as high as each service allows, and keep these distinctions in mind:
Rank #2
- Play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran, as you fight alongside a modern-day guerrilla revolution to liberate Yara
- Fight against Castillo’s regime in the most expansive Far Cry to date, through jungles, beaches, and Esperanza, the capital city of Yara
- Employ an arsenal of resolver weapons, backpacks, and vehicles to take down Castillo’s ruthless regime.
- Pixel resolution: the dimensions of the video image. The cited coverage does not establish that the Bilibili upload has more pixels.
- Bitrate and compression: a higher bitrate can preserve detail during encoding, but does not by itself prove a different source render.
- Source-file differences: the available reporting does not independently establish whether the uploads came from identical source files.
- Playback conditions: streaming quality settings and downloaded-file playback are not necessarily equivalent.
What the sharper trailer does—and does not—tell us
A cleaner encode can make details already present in the trailer easier to see. It does not demonstrate the final game’s image quality, gameplay resolution, frame rate or console performance. Trailer footage is not a performance test, and an encoding difference cannot answer how the finished game will render in motion.
Rockstar Games later stated, “All trailer footage was captured on PlayStation 5,” in its May 6, 2025 Trailer 2 release. That statement applies specifically to Trailer 2; it should not be used as evidence about how Trailer 1 was captured.
