If an egg won’t incubate in ARK, first confirm it is fertilized, then place it on the ground or in an Egg Incubator and check the temperature for that species. An egg in your inventory will not incubate; an egg outside its temperature range will not make progress. If an incubator reaches 100%, you still need to eject the egg to release the newborn.
Why won’t my eggs incubate in ARK?
Work through these checks in order. The game’s egg status is useful: it can show whether the egg is fertilized, whether it is too cold or too hot, or whether incubation is underway.

- Check that the egg is fertilized. Ordinary eggs are used for food or kibble and will not hatch. Only an egg identified as fertilized can produce a baby. See the ARK egg reference.
- Put it in a valid incubation location. Place the fertilized egg on the ground or inside an Egg Incubator. Leaving it in an inventory pauses incubation. The breeding reference describes incubation placement and conditions.
- Check the temperature status. Each species has its own temperature range. If a ground egg is too hot or too cold, incubation does not progress and the egg loses health. Adjust the surroundings until the game reports suitable conditions.
- Allow enough time for that species. Incubation duration varies by creature, and server rates can affect how long it takes. Without the species and server settings, there is no reliable universal timer.
Using an Egg Incubator
The Egg Incubator lets you adjust temperature for eggs inside it and monitor their status. Its display indicates whether an egg is too cold, too hot, or at an ideal temperature. The adjustment applies to eggs in the incubator; it does not fix an egg left elsewhere.

- Place the fertilized egg inside the incubator.
- Read the egg’s displayed status and adjust the incubator temperature until conditions suit the species.
- Watch the incubation progress. When it reaches 100%, open the incubator inventory and manually eject the egg; the newborn is released when you do.

Ground incubation versus the incubator

Neither method is established as universally best across editions, maps, and server settings. Choose based on whether you can maintain the right conditions and monitor the egg.

If it is confirmed fertilized, in a valid location, and receiving suitable temperatures, check whether the progress is simply slow for that species. A breeding reference also describes a possible population-limit behavior: in some crowded tribe or server situations, an egg may incubate without showing timer information and may produce no baby when it hatches. However, that reference explicitly says it needs updating for ARK: Survival Ascended, so treat this as a possible legacy behavior—not a confirmed rule for every Ascended server.
For a more specific diagnosis, note the egg species, game edition and patch, map, server settings, and the exact status text shown in-game. Those details matter because the references do not establish one current rule for every Ascended patch or server configuration.
