When WickedWhims does not work in The Sims 4, the cause is almost always one of four things: the mod files are not where the game expects them, the in-game mod switches are off, the mod does not match your current game version, or another mod is interfering. You can usually find which one by working through the checks below in order. Start with the symptom, because it tells you where to look first.
Start with the symptom
“Not working” can mean two very different things, and they point to different fixes. Decide which one describes your situation before you change anything.

Without knowing your exact symptom, your Sims 4 version, your operating system, or the list of mods you have installed, no guide can pinpoint the cause of your specific problem. The steps below cover the causes that are documented for this mod.
1. Confirm the installation and folder depth
The WickedWhims official installation guide is direct about this: place the WickedWhimsMod folder directly inside the Mods folder, “otherwise the mod will not load.” The Mods folder is located at:

The game only looks for mod files at a specific depth. A common failure is an extra folder layer left over from the download, such as a folder named after the archive sitting between Mods and the mod’s own folder. The example below is illustrative:

- Correct: Mods → WickedWhimsMod → (mod files)
- Incorrect: Mods → WickedWhims download folder → WickedWhimsMod → (mod files)
To fix it, move the WickedWhimsMod folder up so it sits directly in Mods, then delete the empty wrapper folder. Do not leave files inside an archive file or a compressed folder. Extract them first. If you use a cloud-sync or redirected Documents folder, the same path applies inside that location.
2. Check the in-game switches and restart
The game must allow custom content and script mods before any script-based feature will run. Open the game and go to:

- Game Options → Other.
- Turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Turn on Script Mods Allowed.
- Apply the changes, then fully close and restart The Sims 4. Changing these settings while the game is still running does not reliably take effect.
Check these settings again after every game update. The creator notes that a game patch can switch them off, which is one of the most common reasons a mod that worked last week appears to stop.
3. Verify the version pairing
WickedWhims is tied to specific game versions. EA has cautioned that mods can become incompatible after game updates and may need to be updated by their creators. Compare your installed Sims 4 version with the supported versions listed on the official WickedWhims download page. Do not rely on an old tutorial, a forum post from a previous patch, or a version report about a different game build.

If your game version is not listed as supported, the practical options are to wait for an updated release from the creator or to check whether a compatible older build is still offered on the official page. Installing an unverified build from a third-party site adds a new source of problems.

If the mod loads and its menus appear but features still fail, another mod may be the cause. Outdated or conflicting mods can break script-based features even when WickedWhims itself is correct. EA’s recommended approach is a controlled test:

- Move your other custom content and script mods out of the Mods folder into a temporary folder on your desktop. Leave WickedWhims in place.
- Launch the game. If WickedWhims now works, the conflict is in the mods you removed.
- Return the mods in small groups, restarting the game after each group, until the failure returns.
- Once you find the group that triggers it, return them one at a time to identify the exact mod.
- If the base game itself fails with all mods removed, the problem lies outside the mod collection. Verify the game files through your launcher before going further.
The number of rounds depends on how many mods you have. A large collection can take several restart cycles, so keep a written list of what you move each time.
5. Be cautious with conflict-detection tools
Some users run a mod conflict detector before testing manually. The WickedWhims reliability page states that Mod Conflict Detector and similar applications are not meant to find broken or outdated mods. A clean report does not mean your mods are current or healthy, and a flagged file does not prove it is the cause. Use these tools as a starting point at most, and rely on the steps above to confirm.
If it still fails
When every check passes and the problem remains, the report is more useful to the creator if it includes:
- The exact symptom: whether the mod is missing from the game or loaded but failing, and the exact error text if one appears.
- Your Sims 4 game version and operating system.
- The WickedWhims version you installed, and whether it is listed as supported for your game version.
- The list of other script mods you have installed, and which ones you removed during testing.
Include the results of the isolation test as well. Knowing which group of mods removed the problem narrows the search considerably.
