Wicked Whims Not Working After a Sims 4 Update? Here’s How to Fix It

WickedWhims can stop working after a Sims 4 patch because settings were disabled, files are outdated or misplaced, or another mod is conflicting. Follow this safe troubleshooting sequence.

Most WickedWhims problems after a Sims 4 patch are caused by disabled mod settings, an outdated or incorrectly placed script file, duplicate installations, or a conflict with another mod—not necessarily by WickedWhims itself. Start by checking your game and WickedWhims versions, then re-enable both mod permissions, test with only WickedWhims installed, and isolate conflicting files before repairing or resetting The Sims 4.

Compatibility checkpoint: EA’s July 21, 2026 update lists PC version 1.126.58.1030 and Mac version 1.126.58.1230. The creator’s WickedWhims v185k compatibility information also lists Sims 4 version 1.126.78, dated August 6, 2026, while separately identifying compatibility with the July 21 version. Check the exact version shown in the lower-left corner of your Main Menu against the current WickedWhims release notice before replacing files.

Last checked: August 2026. Sims 4 patches and WickedWhims releases can change compatibility, so recheck the creator’s current compatibility notice after a new game update.

First, identify which problem you have

“WickedWhims is not working” can describe several different failures. The symptom determines the quickest test:

What you see Likely first checks Next step
WickedWhims does not appear in the loaded Mods or Custom Content list Both mod settings, the folder path, ZIP extraction, script-file placement, and whether Sims 4 is using a different user folder Install one current copy directly in the Mods folder and test it by itself
WickedWhims appears in the list, but its interactions are missing Game/mod version mismatch, excessive folder depth, duplicate files, or a conflict Run a clean WickedWhims-only test, then use the 50/50 method
A script-call error appears, a household fails to load, or the game returns to Worlds Another PACKAGE or TS4SCRIPT file may be conflicting Remove all other Mods and Custom Content before considering a game repair
WickedWhims loads, but animations, body textures, or particular interactions are broken Outdated animation packages, body/CAS files, or companion mods Test related content in small batches and check each creator’s compatibility information

Do not assume that reinstalling the core WickedWhims file will fix every symptom. A game patch can break any script mod, animation package, tuning mod, UI mod, or custom-content file in the same Mods folder.

1. Check your exact Sims 4 and WickedWhims versions

  1. Launch The Sims 4 and look at the lower-left corner of the Main Menu for the installed game version.
  2. Open the current WickedWhims compatibility or release information from the creator, TURBODRIVER.
  3. Compare your complete game version—not just the first few digits—with the supported versions listed by the creator.
  4. Make sure the core WickedWhims file, animation packages, and compatibility files are intended to work together.

Do not mix an older WickedWhims core installation with newer animations or compatibility files simply because the filenames look similar. If your version is not listed yet, the safest choice is usually to wait for an updated release or remove the incompatible content temporarily rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same files.

When asking the creator for help, include your exact Sims 4 version, operating system, WickedWhims version, and the symptom you see. EA also recommends providing the current game version when contacting a mod creator.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Confirm that your platform supports Mods

WickedWhims is a PC and Mac script mod. The Sims 4 does not support Mods on PlayStation or Xbox. If you are playing on a console, WickedWhims cannot be installed there; this is not an installation failure that can be repaired through the EA app.

3. Re-enable both Mod settings after the patch

Sims 4 updates commonly disable Mods and Custom Content automatically. A script mod needs both permissions enabled:

  1. Open Game Options.
  2. Select Other.
  3. Turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods.
  4. Turn on Script Mods Allowed.
  5. Choose Apply Changes.
  6. Close and completely relaunch The Sims 4.

Checking only Enable Custom Content and Mods is not enough for WickedWhims. It is a script mod, so Script Mods Allowed must also be enabled.

After restarting, look for the game’s loaded-mod notification or Custom Content and Mods list. If WickedWhims is still absent, continue with the folder checks below. If it is listed but its interactions do not appear, skip straight to the version, duplicate-file, and conflict tests.

4. Put WickedWhims in the correct folder

After extracting the download, the creator’s recommended structure places the extracted WickedWhimsMod folder directly inside:

Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods

The WickedWhims folder should contain the mod’s .package and .ts4script files. The usual Windows and Mac locations are both under the current user’s Documents folder, although the exact Documents location can differ if your operating system synchronizes or redirects it.

A typical valid arrangement looks like this:

The Sims 4/Mods/WickedWhimsMod/[WickedWhims files].package
The Sims 4/Mods/WickedWhimsMod/[WickedWhims files].ts4script

Avoid these common invalid arrangements:

The Sims 4/Mods/WickedWhims.zip
The Sims 4/Mods/WickedWhimsMod/WickedWhimsMod/[files]
The Sims 4/Mods/SomeFolder/SeveralMoreFolders/WickedWhimsMod/[files]

Do not leave the ZIP archive in Mods and expect the game to read it. Extract it first. Do not bury the script several folders deep; script mods have stricter folder-depth requirements than ordinary package files.

If the The Sims 4 or Mods folder does not exist, start and close the game once to let it generate the normal folder structure. Also verify that you are editing the same user folder that the game is actually using. A second Windows user account, redirected Documents folder, OneDrive setup, or old backup folder can make it appear that files are installed correctly when Sims 4 is reading a different location.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Remove duplicate and obsolete WickedWhims files

Keep one current WickedWhims core installation. Search the entire Mods folder for:

  • an older WickedWhims folder;
  • a second copy of the current folder;
  • old extracted versions left beside the new version;
  • duplicate .ts4script or .package files;
  • download archives that you accidentally extracted into Mods.

Move suspected old files to a temporary folder outside Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods rather than permanently deleting them. Do not keep multiple versions active “just in case”; duplicate script files can produce errors or make troubleshooting results unreliable.

6. Clear the appropriate cache file

With the game closed, delete:

Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/localthumbcache.package

This is a refresh step recommended in WickedWhims troubleshooting guidance when the mod is not appearing or behaving incorrectly. The game recreates the file the next time it starts.

For a specific black or visibly corrupted body-texture symptom, the creator’s compatibility information separately identifies localsimtexturecache.package. Use that targeted cache step for the texture problem described; do not present it as a universal fix for missing interactions, script errors, or outdated animations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cache deletion does not update WickedWhims, repair an incompatible animation package, or resolve a genuine mod conflict. If the problem returns, continue with isolation testing.

7. Test with only WickedWhims installed

This is the most useful test when WickedWhims appears in the list but interactions fail, the game reports a script error, a household will not load, or Sims 4 returns to the Worlds screen.

  1. Close The Sims 4.
  2. Back up your saves, Tray, and Mods folders before moving files.
  3. Move every other Mod and Custom Content file out of the active Mods folder.
  4. Leave only the current WickedWhims installation—and only the related files required by that installation—in Mods.
  5. Delete localthumbcache.package.
  6. Start the game and test in a new or disposable save.

Do not overwrite your primary save during this test. If WickedWhims works alone, the core installation is probably loading and another file is causing the conflict or chain of errors. If it still fails alone, recheck the game version, the creator’s supported version, script-file placement, duplicate files, and the two mod settings.

8. Find the conflicting file with the 50/50 method

If WickedWhims works by itself, restore your removed content in groups rather than all at once:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Divide the removed files into two batches.
  2. Add the first batch to Mods and test.
  3. If the problem returns, the faulty file is in that batch. If it does not, test the second batch.
  4. Divide the problematic batch in half again.
  5. Repeat until you identify one file or a small group that causes the failure.

Prioritize Game Mods and script mods before ordinary Custom Content, because they are more likely to affect game functionality. Check these categories first:

  • outdated script mods;
  • old or duplicate WickedWhims animation packages;
  • animation files that do not match the current core mod;
  • UI or tuning mods affected by the same Sims 4 patch;
  • body, skin, tongue, clothing, or other CAS files connected to the symptom;
  • companion mods whose creators have not posted compatibility information.

Remove or update the file identified by the test, then repeat the test once more to confirm that the result was not caused by a bad batch or an unrelated cache issue.

A generic “mod conflict detector” cannot reliably prove that a file is outdated or incompatible with a new patch. Such tools may identify technical conflicts, but they generally cannot know whether a creator’s file still works with the current Sims 4 version. Creator compatibility notices and controlled isolation testing are more reliable.

9. Match the fix to the symptom

WickedWhims is missing from the loaded-mod list

Check both settings first, then confirm that the extracted WickedWhimsMod folder is directly in Mods and contains the script file. Make sure the ZIP was extracted and that Sims 4 is not using another Documents or user folder. Remove old copies, clear localthumbcache.package, and test with only the current release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It appears in the list, but no Wicked interactions appear

Compare the exact game version with the creator’s compatibility notice. Then check script depth, duplicate files, and matching animation or companion files. A clean WickedWhims-only test distinguishes a version or installation problem from a conflict.

You get a script-call error or return to the Worlds screen

Remove every other PACKAGE and TS4SCRIPT file and test a disposable save with only WickedWhims. If the clean test works, use 50/50 isolation. If the game still fails with Mods removed, this is no longer primarily a WickedWhims troubleshooting problem; proceed to the EA app repair step.

Animations are missing or broken

Check the animation package creator’s current compatibility information and confirm that the package is intended for your WickedWhims version. Remove old or duplicate animation files, then restore animations in small batches. A working core mod does not guarantee that every third-party animation package has been updated for the latest patch.

Body textures are black or corrupted

For the specific texture symptom, close the game and remove localsimtexturecache.package if present. If the problem continues, temporarily remove related body, skin, tongue, clothing, and other CAS Custom Content. Restore those files incrementally to identify the responsible package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The game fails even with Mods disabled

Stop reinstalling WickedWhims. Test the unmodded game with a clean or temporarily moved Mods folder. If Sims 4 still fails to launch or behaves incorrectly, repair the official game installation and, if necessary, reset the user folder after making a backup.

10. Repair The Sims 4 through the EA app

Use this step when the game itself has trouble even after Mods and Custom Content are removed:

  1. Open the EA app and select Library.
  2. Find The Sims 4.
  3. Open the game’s three-dot menu.
  4. Choose Repair.

Repair checks the official Sims 4 installation. It does not update WickedWhims and does not replace files in your user-created Mods folder. That is why it belongs after the clean Mods-disabled test, not as the first response to a missing interaction.

11. Back up before resetting the Sims 4 user folder

Before moving Mods, testing saves, or resetting user data, copy the entire The Sims 4 folder to your desktop or another safe location. At minimum, preserve:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • saves;
  • Tray;
  • Mods;
  • any other custom files you want to restore.

An optional USB flash drive for Sims 4 backup can keep a second copy away from the active Documents folder. It is not required to make WickedWhims work, and it will not repair a broken mod; it is simply useful protection before a reset. Readers with a particularly large Mods folder or several backup snapshots may prefer a larger external drive.

After backing up, EA’s reset procedure starts Sims 4 with a clean user folder containing no saves or Mods. If the clean game works, the cause is in the old saves, downloaded content, or user-folder configuration. Restore folders one at a time and test after each addition. To find a damaged save, copy saves back individually and launch the game after each test rather than restoring the entire folder at once.

Protect your save while troubleshooting

Never save a household or lot while Custom Content and Mods are disabled if it contains modded content you want to preserve. EA warns that saving in that state can remove modded content from the save. For the same reason, use a disposable or newly created save while testing.

The July 21, 2026 update added Autosave and Save Reminders, and The Sims 4 also provides recoverable past saves. Those features can help if a test goes wrong, but they are not a substitute for an independent backup of the Sims 4 folder. Make the backup before changing the active Mods folder or resetting user data.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What not to do

  • Do not install WickedWhims on PlayStation or Xbox; Mods are not available on those platforms.
  • Do not enable only Custom Content while leaving Script Mods disabled.
  • Do not put the ZIP archive in Mods without extracting it.
  • Do not place the script several folders deep.
  • Do not keep old and new WickedWhims installations active together.
  • Do not assume one cache deletion fixes an incompatible mod.
  • Do not save a primary household while Mods are disabled.
  • Do not delete saves or the entire Sims 4 folder without a backup and a restoration plan.
  • Do not rely on a mod-conflict tool to determine whether a file is obsolete after a patch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Sims 4 disable WickedWhims after an update?

Sims 4 patches commonly turn off both Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed. Go to Game Options > Other, enable both settings, apply the changes, and restart the game. You must also verify that the installed WickedWhims release supports your exact Sims 4 version.

Can WickedWhims work on PlayStation or Xbox?

No. WickedWhims is a PC and Mac script mod. The Sims 4 does not support Mods on PlayStation or Xbox.

Why is WickedWhims listed but missing its interactions?

That usually points to a game/mod version mismatch, incorrect script placement, duplicate files, outdated animations, or a conflict with another mod. Test with only the current WickedWhims installation in a disposable save, then use the 50/50 method if it works.

Will deleting the cache fix WickedWhims?

It may refresh stale cached data, but it cannot update an incompatible mod or repair a conflict. Delete localthumbcache.package for general troubleshooting; use localsimtexturecache.package specifically for the described black or corrupted body-texture symptom.

Can I save while Mods are disabled?

Do not save a modded household while Mods and Custom Content are disabled. EA warns that doing so can remove modded content from the save. Exit without saving, re-enable the settings, and restart instead.

What should I do if Sims 4 still fails without any Mods?

Repair The Sims 4 in the EA app by opening Library, selecting the game’s three-dot menu, and choosing Repair. If the problem continues, back up the Sims 4 user folder and follow a reset procedure, restoring saves and downloaded content one folder or file at a time.

The Bottom Line

The reliable order is: check the exact game and WickedWhims versions, enable both script-mod settings, verify the direct folder structure, remove duplicates, clear the relevant cache, test with only WickedWhims, and isolate conflicts with 50/50 testing. Repair or reset Sims 4 only when the game remains broken without Mods—and always back up before changing saves or user data.
