For the original Windows PC releases, use Kitserver 5 with PES 5 and Kitserver 6 with PES 6. In each case, configure the included LOD Mixer module for aspect-ratio correction, then select a supported widescreen mode in the game’s Settings utility. If the resolution is missing, force it through kload.cfg.
This corrects the match view more reliably than simply stretching a 4:3 image, but it does not guarantee a fully corrected interface. Menus, HUD elements, loading screens, and other 2D graphics may remain stretched.

What the PES 5 and PES 6 widescreen fix actually does
There is no single universal modern “Widescreen Fix” executable for both games. The established PC solution is version-specific:

Kitserver is a community modding framework rather than an official Konami patch. Its widescreen-related behavior comes primarily from LOD Mixer, which can adjust the match presentation and aspect ratio. Resolution selection is a separate step.

A 16:9 mode such as 1920×1080 only describes the output display mode. Without aspect-ratio correction, the original 4:3 image can be expanded horizontally, making players look too wide and the ball appear oval. The goal is a match view with normal player proportions, a round ball, and additional horizontal field of view.
The instructions below apply to compatible Windows PC executables, not PlayStation 2 emulation or every unofficial repack and patch.

Before installing
- Confirm that you are using the original Windows PC version, not the PS2 version through PCSX2.
- Back up the complete game folder, saves, and any existing patch installation.
- Identify the executable you actually use to launch the game. A total-conversion patch may replace or rename it.
- Close the game before running Kitserver’s installer.
- Temporarily disable other DLL wrappers, graphics injectors, or executable-based mods while testing.
- Start with windowed mode if possible. It makes resolution and compatibility problems easier to recover from.
Kitserver’s manuals specifically warn that the game must not be running during installation and that a read-only executable can prevent the installer from attaching correctly.
PES 5: install Kitserver 5 and correct the aspect ratio
- Obtain a Kitserver 5 package from a reputable archive or documented distribution source. The documentation is available in the Kitserver 5 manual; do not assume every file listed on an archive page is current or official.
- Extract the complete
kitserverfolder into the PES 5 installation directory, alongsidePES5.exeandsettings.exe. - Open
kitserversetup.exe. - Select
PES5.exe. If the installer does not identify it automatically, browse to the executable you actually launch. - Click Install.
- Run
kitserverlodcfg.exeand enable automatic aspect-ratio correction if that option is exposed by your Kitserver build. - Open the game’s Settings utility and select a supported 16:9 or 16:10 resolution.
- Test a match before committing to fullscreen. Check the ball, player proportions, camera, and pitch view.
The expected layout is conceptually:

PES 6: install Kitserver 6 and correct the aspect ratio
- Extract the complete Kitserver 6
kitserverfolder into the PES 6 installation directory. - Run
kitserversetup.exe. - Select
PES6.exe, or the patched executable used by your installation. - Click Install.
- Run
kitserverlodcfg.exe. - Enable LOD Mixer’s automatic aspect-ratio correction.
- Open
settings.exeand choose a supported widescreen resolution. - Test in windowed mode first, then switch to fullscreen after the match view looks correct.
The expected layout is:

└── ...Kitserver 6’s documentation describes LOD Mixer as providing graphics-engine adjustments, automatic aspect-ratio correction, level-of-detail controls, and other match presentation options. It is intended for PES 6 and Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007, but executable and patch compatibility still varies.
If the resolution is missing
The game’s Settings utility may offer only a limited selection of old display modes. Kitserver can force a fullscreen output resolution through kload.cfg when the monitor and graphics driver support that mode.

For 1920×1080, use:
dx.fullscreen.width = 1920
dx.fullscreen.height = 1080For 2560×1440:
dx.fullscreen.width = 2560
dx.fullscreen.height = 1440In many configuration files these entries initially appear commented out:
#dx.fullscreen.width = 1920
#dx.fullscreen.height = 1080Remove the leading # characters to activate them. Keep a backup of the original file and change width and height together. The selected mode must be supported by the display and driver; an invalid mode can produce a black screen, an “out of range” message, an immediate exit, or a failed launch.
Output resolution is not internal resolution
Fullscreen dimensions determine the mode sent to the monitor. They do not necessarily determine the resolution at which the game renders internally.

Kitserver configurations may also contain settings such as:
internal.resolution.width = 0
internal.resolution.height = 0A high-resolution monitor can therefore display a low-resolution game image that is enlarged and blurry. Increasing internal resolution may improve sharpness, but suitable values depend on the executable, graphics hardware, installed patch, and Kitserver build. Do not treat arbitrary internal-resolution values as guaranteed settings.
Choosing the right aspect ratio

Do not configure a 16:10 monitor as 16:9. Older Kitserver material documents examples such as 1.6000 for 16:10 and 1.77778 for 16:9. However, manual aspect.ratio editing is version-dependent. The safer default is to enable automatic correction in lodcfg.exe rather than copying a line from Kitserver 3 or 4 into every PES 5 or PES 6 installation. How to tell whether it worked
- The ball looks circular rather than visibly oval.
- Players do not look noticeably wider than they do in a 4:3 reference view.
- The pitch shows more horizontal space instead of merely enlarging the original image.
- The camera is not unnaturally cropped, zoomed, or distorted.
- The match view is geometrically correct even if menus are not.
Menus, scoreboards, loading screens, cutscenes, and other front-end graphics may retain their original 4:3 layout. Historical testing and the PCGamingWiki PES 5 entry document this limitation. A stretched menu does not necessarily mean LOD Mixer failed.
Troubleshooting
The game will not launch
- Run
kitserversetup.exeand click Remove. - Confirm that the unmodified game launches.
- Install the correct Kitserver generation: Kitserver 5 for PES 5 or Kitserver 6 for PES 6.
- Select the executable you actually launch, including any patch replacement.
- Restore the previous resolution and test windowed mode.
- Disable other wrappers and injectors, then re-enable modifications one at a time.
Kitserver does not recognize the executable
Check that the kitserver folder is beside the executable rather than inside another nested folder. Make sure the game is closed and the executable is not marked read-only. A patch may use a different executable name or revision; attach Kitserver to that file instead of blindly selecting the original filename.

Black screen or “out of range” error
Comment out or remove the forced fullscreen entries:
#dx.fullscreen.width = 1920
#dx.fullscreen.height = 1080Return to the last known working mode, launch windowed, and only test a monitor-supported resolution afterward.
Players or the ball are still stretched
Confirm that LOD Mixer is installed and that automatic aspect-ratio correction is enabled. Verify that Kitserver is attached to the correct executable, then test a standard 16:9 mode such as 1920×1080. Temporarily remove other graphics modifications. Do not assume that aspect.ratio = 1.77778 works in every PES 5 or PES 6 build.
The image is blurry
Check whether the game is rendering internally at a low resolution or whether the monitor is scaling a non-native mode. Output resolution and internal rendering resolution are separate, and Kitserver 6’s documentation warns that a large display does not automatically produce a sharp image.

16:9, 21:9, and 4K limits
Start with 16:9 or 16:10. Once the match view is correct, test ultrawide resolutions such as 2560×1080 or 3440×1440. PES 5 has been documented as capable of running at ultrawide and 3840×2160 in some Kitserver configurations, but that does not establish that every camera, HUD, menu, patch, or internal rendering path will behave correctly.

21:9 and 4K should therefore be treated as configuration-dependent extensions, not guaranteed full-interface support. PCSX2 widescreen methods are a separate technical solution and should not be mixed with the PC Kitserver procedure.
Alternatives
Standalone LOD Mixer
A standalone LOD Mixer approach was historically used, particularly when a full Kitserver installation conflicted with a PES 5 setup. It can be a narrower fallback, but old standalone packages are harder to verify and may support fewer executable revisions. The historical procedure is described by the Widescreen Gaming Forum.
GPU or monitor scaling
GPU or monitor scaling can fill a widescreen display with a 4:3 image, but it does not correct the game’s geometry. Use it only if filling the screen matters more than accurate proportions. It is not a camera, aspect-ratio, menu, or HUD fix.

For PES 5, install Kitserver 5; for PES 6, install Kitserver 6. Attach it to the executable you actually launch, enable LOD Mixer’s aspect-ratio correction, and select a supported widescreen mode before forcing dimensions in kload.cfg. Judge success by the match view—not by whether every menu and HUD element fills the screen correctly.
