For better results in Wii Sports, focus on timing, direction and controlled motion—not swinging as hard as possible. Before you start, fasten the Wii Remote wrist strap, clear the play area and take a break if you feel tired, as Nintendo instructs in its 2006 instruction booklet.
Know the controls and multiplayer setup
The original Wii game has five sports: Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Golf and Boxing. Motion controls respond to how you move the Wii Remote, so watch the on-screen cues and use deliberate, repeatable movements. Player limits and controller needs vary by sport.

Tennis: serve and aim with timing
Tennis is doubles play. The direction and timing of your swing affect where the ball goes; swinging harder is not a substitute for making contact at the right moment.
#1 Best Overall
- -Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- -This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
- Serve: Swing up and then down. You can press A to toss the ball before serving.
- Return: Track whether the ball approaches from your right or left, then swing on that side.
- Change the shot: Contact timing and stroke can affect direction and produce different shots, including lobs and spin. Make small adjustments and watch the result rather than changing several things at once.
Nintendo’s manual and its official sport-control pages describe timing and direction as key cues.
Baseball: separate batting from pitching
Wii Sports simplifies baseball to batting and pitching; fielding and running happen automatically. A standard match normally ends after three innings. The manual also describes a mercy rule when one player leads by more than five runs.

- Batting: Use a gentle, controlled swing and focus on the pitch’s timing.
- Pitching: Swing speed affects ball speed. Button combinations select different pitch types, so learn one combination at a time and observe its result.
Bowling: time the release, then add spin
A match has ten frames. Use a smooth swing and release consistently; twisting the Wii Remote changes the ball’s spin or curve.
- Raise the Wii Remote to chest height.
- Hold B and draw the remote back.
- Move it forward in a controlled swing and release B at the end of the motion.
- Once your release is consistent, experiment with twisting the remote to change the ball’s curve.
Up to four players can bowl while sharing one Wii Remote. Nintendo’s official Bowling instructions also recommend a gentle swing.

- Tennis (1-4 players): Players grab the controller like a racket and swing - the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don't worry about moving around the court to get to the ball - the game automatically moves players into position. Baseball (1-2 players): Grip the controller like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park in a home run derby. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between
Golf: use the gauge, course and lie together
Use the power gauge and course map to plan a shot rather than trying to overpower it. Nintendo’s manual says a swing at 50% power corresponds to the halfway point on the indicated line. That is a guide to the gauge, not a guarantee of the ball’s final distance: wind, bunkers and rough affect the result.
- Check the course map and wind before choosing how much power to use.
- Account for the ball’s lie. Rough and bunkers can reduce distance.
- Keep the swing measured. Excessive force can cause a slice or hook.
- On the green, use the putting controls and make controlled strokes.
Nintendo’s official sport-control pages likewise caution against excessive swing strength.

Boxing: coordinate both controllers
Boxing uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as your two gloves. Each player needs both devices. Matches last three rounds of one minute each; a knockout ends the bout, otherwise judges decide after the third round. Use controlled punching and blocking motions, and keep the surrounding area clear.

A Mii becomes Pro when its skill level rises above 1,000 points, but can lose Pro status if the level later drops. Skill level does not change when you play another person in Tennis, Baseball or Boxing.
Protect your records
Records are tied to the selected Mii. Guest Miis and Miis stored on a Wii Remote do not save records, and deleting a Mii erases its data. Choose the Mii whose progress you want to keep before playing.
