No—Wildgate is not free-to-play. It is a paid game with a limited free trial. The trial lets eligible new players try the full gameplay and modes through Prospector Level 5, and progress carries over if they buy the game. Its store price has changed substantially through sales, so check the current listing on your platform before purchasing.
What Wildgate costs
Wildgate launched on July 22, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. At launch, its listed price was $29.99 on Steam. That is a historical launch price, not a reliable current price: recorded Steam discounts reached $14.99 in December 2025, $9.89 in February 2026 and $7.49 in March 2026.

A Steam listing viewed in October 2026 showed $9.99 as the regular price and $4.49 with a 55% discount, which conflicts with the earlier $29.99 base price. A permanent price cut is possible but not confirmed. Prices and promotions vary by storefront and date; check the live Steam, PlayStation or Xbox listing for the price in your region.
How the free trial works
Wildgate’s November 2025 Steam Free Weekend transitioned into an ongoing free trial. The trial includes the game’s modes and gameplay up to Prospector Level 5. Players who purchase the game keep their progress. The trial is limited to accounts at Prospector Levels 1–4; accounts that advanced beyond that during the free weekend are not eligible.

The trial arrived on PS5 on November 20, 2025, and on Steam and Xbox Series X|S on November 24, 2025. Check the relevant store page to confirm whether the trial is currently offered in your region and on your platform.
Ways to play for less
- Wait for a sale: Wildgate has had steep Steam discounts, but past sale prices do not guarantee the next offer or the price on another platform.
- Look for a bundle: A discounted Steam bundle with Sunderfolk, Lynked: Banner of the Spark and Mechabellum has been listed. Compare its current price with the cost of the games you actually want. A Renegade Edition has also appeared in listings; check its contents and price on the store page.
- Check subscription availability: Wikipedia reports that Wildgate was added to Xbox Game Pass on May 6, 2026, but that date is supported here by a single source. Confirm the current catalog and your subscription tier directly with Xbox before relying on it.
- Know that the Epic giveaway ended: Wildgate was free to claim on the Epic Games Store through January 8, 2026. That promotion has expired; it is not an ongoing free-to-play option.
Is there an in-game cash shop?
Steam community discussions describe a shop for optional cosmetics, with players saying purchases support further updates. That is player commentary rather than an official monetization statement. The available information does not establish that gameplay content is sold through the shop.

Should you buy a third-party key?
Key-reseller listings have shown prices below official-store sale prices, but sellers outside authorized storefronts can carry added risks, including invalid or revoked keys and limited support. A low listing is not a guarantee that a key is legitimate or redeemable in your region. For a safer purchase, use the platform’s official store or a seller you can verify as authorized.
