Its mix of ship combat, exploration, and first-person boarding can suit a group that enjoys coordinating under pressure. The biggest reason to pause before buying is its support outlook: PC Gamer reported on June 25, 2026, that ongoing development would end after the next update. The game was not reported as shutting down, but players should weigh that reduced content commitment against the appeal of its core loop.
What is Wildgate?
Moonshot Games describes Wildgate as a PvP multiplayer shooter combining ship-to-ship combat with fast-paced first-person action. Players take the role of Prospectors, crew customizable spacecraft, explore the procedurally generated Reach, and collect useful items and upgrades while dealing with hazards and rival crews. The game launched on July 22, 2025, for Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, according to Dreamhaven’s launch announcement.
That combination is the game’s defining hook: the crew has to keep its ship functioning and make tactical decisions while individual players may be fighting elsewhere in first person. If your group wants a straightforward shooter where everyone focuses on their own firefight, Wildgate’s vehicle-and-team management may feel like friction. If sharing ship duties and reacting to rival crews sounds appealing, that structure is the reason to consider it.
How do you win a match?
There are two main routes to victory: escape through the Wildgate carrying the Artifact, or destroy the other ships and be the last crew flying. The official gameplay FAQ adds a third outcome: if a match reaches 60 minutes, the Reach wins automatically.

The Artifact route is not simply a race to pick up an item unseen. According to the FAQ, opponents can learn where it is if a player touches it, a team scans the point of interest containing it, or the Wildgate opens. Those triggers make information and timing part of the objective. The alternative last-ship-standing route puts the emphasis on ship combat and survival instead.
What makes the crew and ship choices matter?
Prospectors and ships are differentiated by roles and capabilities rather than being one-size-fits-all picks. The May 4, 2026, official FAQ describes the following Prospector groups and ships. Exact abilities and stats are patch-sensitive, so check the current in-game descriptions when choosing.
Prospector roles
| Role | Prospectors | What the role brings |
|---|---|---|
| Explorer | Venture | Mobility and exploration tools help with moving through the Reach and pursuing objectives. |
| Ship Defender | Sammo | Defensive abilities are oriented toward protecting the crew and ship. |
| Boarder | Ion, Mophs, Adrian, Kae | Boarding-oriented abilities support taking the fight to rival crews. |
| Engineer | Sal | Repair tools support ship upkeep during engagements. |
| Support | Charlie | Support abilities include revival tools to help bring teammates back into play. |
These role labels point to different contributions—mobility, defense, boarding pressure, repair, or revival—not a universal ranking. A crew that wants to attack rival ships may value different tools from one trying to survive long enough to escape with the Artifact.
Ship types
The FAQ lists six ships: Hunter, Bastion, Privateer, Scout, Outlaw, and Battle Scout. Their published differences include health, speed, weapons, defenses, and crew size. Those tradeoffs shape how a crew approaches combat: a ship’s capacity, durability, and armament affect what it can risk and how the team can coordinate. No single ship is identified as best for every crew or strategy.
Is Wildgate good for solo players or playing with strangers?
The official descriptions make coordination central: players crew ships, manage ship systems, and combine individual combat with shared objectives. That makes Wildgate an easier recommendation for a group that wants to communicate and divide responsibilities than for someone specifically seeking a self-contained solo shooter. You can play with other people, but the available official materials do not establish how matchmaking feels or how consistently strangers coordinate, so a review should not promise that random crews will work smoothly.
A microphone headset is a practical optional aid for coordinating ship duties and reacting to boarding or objective changes; the store does not list one as a requirement. For friends playing online, agree on who will watch ship systems, who will explore, and who will respond to boarders before a match gets hectic.

Does Wildgate have crossplay and cross-progression?
The official store lists cross-platform multiplayer, and the game is available on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Dreamhaven’s FAQ says progression and in-game purchases can carry across platforms when the player links platform accounts to a Dreamhaven account. If you buy the game on more than one platform, account linking is therefore important to accessing that continuity. Cross-platform multiplayer and linked-account progression are separate features: the former lets supported platforms play together, while the latter carries eligible progress and purchases between linked accounts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Wildgate still being updated?
PC Gamer reported on June 25, 2026, that ongoing development would end after the next update. The report quoted game director Dustin Browder saying, “Wildgate hasn’t found a large enough audience to sustain ongoing development.” It said the game would remain purchasable, with occasional bug fixes, balance updates, small events or rewards, and a small core team monitoring servers; player support would be reduced. That is a dated report based on a Steam update, not a claim that the servers or game have shut down. Check for a newer official announcement before making a current purchase decision.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe practical distinction is between continued access and active development. The report described the former as continuing, but the latter—regularly adding substantial new content—was ending after the next update. If a steady stream of new features and events is essential to your multiplayer game, this is a significant drawback. If you are choosing based on the existing crew-and-ship gameplay, occasional maintenance and events may be enough, depending on your expectations.

What platforms and PC requirements does Wildgate have?
The game is available on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The official Steam store page also lists full controller support and Steam Deck Playable. Its current PC listing gives these minimum requirements:
- Operating system: Windows 10/11
- Processor: Intel Core i5-4440 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti, Radeon RX 570, or Intel Arc A380
- DirectX: Version 12
- Network: Broadband internet
- Storage: 9 GB available space
These are minimum PC requirements, not a performance guarantee. Requirements and availability can change; check the official Wildgate store and live Steam listing for the current information for your region and platform.
Should you buy Wildgate?
Wildgate is worth considering if your group is drawn to the unusual combination of piloting, ship upkeep, exploration, and first-person fights, and is comfortable with a game whose ongoing development is winding down. Its two main win paths give a crew a choice between an Artifact escape and defeating every rival ship, while distinct Prospector roles and ship designs offer room to adapt team composition.
