The first character was four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, who was scheduled to become playable on May 23, 2025. The announcement promised at least three more licensed player characters later in 2025, but did not name them, and the sources available for this article do not confirm which of those characters have launched.
What the 2025 announcement covered
The deal was announced by Wildlife Studios, the developer and publisher of Tennis Clash, together with Winners Alliance, which secured the rights on the players’ behalf. According to the announcement, Wildlife obtained the right to use the names, images and likenesses of selected male and female professional players in the game. Wildlife and Winners Alliance described it as the first appearance of officially licensed players in Tennis Clash.
Three details are worth keeping separate:
- Who was named: Only Naomi Osaka. The phrase “other stars” in the headline refers to players the announcement described but did not identify.
- What was licensed: Names, images and likenesses of the selected players, for use inside Tennis Clash.
- What was promised: At least three additional licensed characters in 2025, with more in development.
The agreement is limited to the players it names or describes. It does not mean every professional player will appear in the game, and it should not be read as an endorsement of tennis as a whole.
Naomi Osaka’s planned debut
Osaka’s character was scheduled to be playable from May 23, 2025. According to the announcement, her outfit was inspired by the look she wore at the 2024 US Open. The announcement describes Osaka as a four-time Grand Slam champion. Because the announcement was published before the debut date, it describes the launch as planned. Readers checking the game today should confirm that the character is still available, since the sources used here do not establish her current status.

Later characters: what is and is not established
Wildlife said at least three additional licensed player characters would arrive later in 2025, and that more were in development. The announcement did not name them, and it did not set out a schedule for each one. Based on the sources available for this article, there is no confirmed list of which characters were released, when, or whether any of the planned rollout has been completed. Any roster claim should be checked against the game itself or against Wildlife Studios’ own announcements after May 2025.
The companies’ stated reasons
Wildlife and Winners Alliance framed the deal as a way to make the game more authentic and to connect fans with professional players through interactive avatars. That is the companies’ own rationale. The announcement does not include any independent measurement showing that the licensed characters improve engagement or authenticity.

- More Than a Message: This dimensional tennis design is a display-worthy keepsake for the desk, shelf, or locker of someone who loves the sport. Give them a cheerful reminder of their favorite pastime that lasts beyond the moment they open it.
Two statements from the announcement capture the framing:
- Eric Winston, President, Winners Alliance: “Winners Alliance is proud to bring professional tennis players into a platform as dynamic and far-reaching as Tennis Clash.”
- Giovanni Piffer, Partnerships Lead, Wildlife Studios: “We strive to make Tennis Clash as authentic and entertaining as possible, which is why we’re excited to partner with Winners Alliance to welcome some of the sport’s most beloved stars into the game.”
Piffer also said the team was eager to see how players responded to the new Naomi Osaka character, and that it could not wait to unveil the additional characters coming soon.

The “more than 170 million users” figure
The announcement cited more than 170 million users worldwide. That figure was reported by Wildlife Studios and Winners Alliance in May 2025. It is a company-reported audience figure from that date, not a current player count, and no independent audit of it is available in the sources used for this article.

A separate earlier partnership with the ITF
Tennis Clash has had another sports partnership, but it is a different kind of deal. In an official announcement dated October 5, 2023, Wildlife described an ITF-branded World Tennis eChampionship and a limited-time “Future of Tennis String” sold inside the game. The release said 20% of revenue from that in-game item would be shared with the ITF to support young players. The string is an in-game purchase, not a physical product.
The two deals are compared below.
| Item | 2025 Winners Alliance player license | 2023 ITF partnership |
|---|---|---|
| Announced | May 22, 2025 | October 5, 2023 |
| Partner(s) | Winners Alliance, representing selected professional players | International Tennis Federation (ITF) |
| What is licensed or shared | Names, images and likenesses of selected players for in-game characters | ITF branding for a World Tennis eChampionship; a limited-time in-game item |
| Named participants | Naomi Osaka; at least three further unnamed characters promised for 2025 | Not stated in the announcement |
| Revenue sharing | Not stated in the announcement | 20% of revenue from the in-game string shared with the ITF |
| Physical product | None | None; the string exists only inside the game |
How to verify the current status
- Check the Tennis Clash character roster in the game itself to see whether Naomi Osaka is available.
- Compare any named additional player against the original May 22, 2025 Winners Alliance announcement, which promised but did not name them.
- Look for Wildlife Studios’ official announcements after May 2025 before treating any further characters as launched.
Treat the 2025 plan as a promise made at the time of announcement, not as a confirmed record of what has since shipped.
