Short answer: Bungie has not announced whether Destiny 2 characters, progression, gear, cosmetics, downloadable content or currency will carry into a future Destiny game. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny remains part of its future, but its public statements do not define a new game’s account system or any transfer policy. Treat claims that progress or purchases are guaranteed to move over—or guaranteed to be left behind—as speculation.
The latest confirmed information is therefore a status update, not a migration promise. Destiny 2 is intended to remain playable after its final planned live-service content update, while Bungie works toward future stories and games.

What Bungie has officially said about Destiny’s future
Bungie’s official statements establish that the Destiny universe is continuing, but they stop short of announcing a named sequel, launch platform, account architecture or data-transfer program.
“The Next Chapter for Bungie” points to more Destiny, not a transfer plan
In “The Next Chapter for Bungie”, Bungie says, “All of this is to say, we are not done with Destiny.” The post describes more stories and new worlds, and presents the restoration of vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations and raids as a first step toward new stories and games. It does not specify whether a future game will read Destiny 2 characters, achievements, collections, quest history or purchases.

May 2026 announcement sets Destiny 2’s live-service direction
Bungie’s May 2026 announcement said the studio would begin incubating its next games and that June 9, 2026 would bring Destiny 2’s final planned live-service content update. The same announcement said Destiny 2 would remain playable. It did not promise that Destiny 2 accounts, paid content or premium currency would transfer to another release.
Update 9.7.0 describes support status, not migration
Bungie’s Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 Support Guide says there are no planned content updates after Update 9.7.0, while allowing that a health or stability hotfix could still be necessary. That is a statement about Destiny 2’s maintenance and content cadence. It is not a specification for how a future game might handle accounts or purchases.
Which kinds of Destiny 2 data could carry over?
“Progress” and “purchases” are not single technical categories. A future announcement would need to address each separately. Nothing below has a confirmed transfer outcome today.

| Seasonal or pass content | Season Passes and Rewards Passes purchased for Destiny 2 | Not announced for a future game |
| Premium currency | Silver balance and items bought with Silver | Not announced; current Silver rules are tied to a Destiny release |
This separation matters because a publisher could, for example, preserve account identity while excluding an old expansion license, or recognize selected cosmetics without importing power progression. Bungie has not said that it will choose any of those approaches.
Is Cross Save the same as carrying progress into a new game?
No. Cross Save is a Destiny 2 platform-access feature, not a promise of cross-game migration.
Bungie’s Destiny 2: Cross Save Guide explains that you select one active Destiny 2 account and use its characters across linked platforms. Cross Save does not merge multiple accounts. It also does not say that the active account will automatically become the account for a separate future release.
What Cross Save does today
- Lets the selected active Destiny 2 account be accessed on linked platforms.
- Keeps that account’s Destiny 2 characters and progression available when you switch among those platforms.
- Requires you to choose which account is active rather than combining characters or inventories from different accounts.
What Cross Save does not establish
- It does not confirm that a future Destiny game will use the same database.
- It does not merge purchases made on separate platform accounts.
- It does not guarantee that Destiny 2 characters, achievements, gear or cosmetics will appear in another game.
Using Cross Save is still useful for playing Destiny 2 across your current platforms, but it should not be treated as evidence of a future transfer entitlement.

Bungie’s existing rules differ by purchase type. Those rules govern Destiny 2 today; they should not be extrapolated to an unannounced future game.
Expansion and DLC licenses
The Cross Save guide states that platform DLC licenses, including expansions such as Beyond Light or Shadowkeep, do not transfer between platform accounts through Cross Save. You need the relevant license on each platform where you want to access that DLC. This is an account-and-platform entitlement rule inside Destiny 2, not a decision about whether a future game will honor an old expansion purchase.
Silver
Bungie’s Destiny Silver Purchases Guide says Silver is bound to the Destiny account and Destiny release that purchased it. Silver cannot be transferred or gifted to another account or release. Silver bought on an Active Account can be used only on the purchasing platform; items bought with Silver on that Active Account can be used on any platform.
Those limits answer how Silver works within the current Destiny ecosystem. They do not prove that an unused balance will be deleted, converted or honored in a future game, because Bungie has not published that future-game policy.
Rewards Passes
Bungie’s FAQ for Rewards Pass Purchases says Rewards Passes can be shared across platforms on accounts with Cross Save enabled. That is a platform-sharing rule for the applicable Destiny 2 account. It is not confirmation that a Rewards Pass, its claimed items or its unclaimed rewards will carry into another release.

What “Destiny 2 will remain playable” means
The May 2026 announcement’s statement that Destiny 2 will remain playable is separate from the announcement of new games. It means access to the existing game is expected to continue even after the final planned live-service content update on June 9, 2026. The Update 9.7.0 support guide leaves room for health or stability hotfixes, but does not describe a new content schedule.
For players, the practical distinction is important: a playable Destiny 2 account is not automatically a portable account. You can continue using the current game under its published rules while waiting for Bungie to explain how any future title will handle identity, progression and purchases.

Keep your platform accounts linked correctly
Review the active account shown in Destiny 2 Cross Save before switching platforms. Because Cross Save selects one active account and does not merge accounts, verify that it contains the characters and progression you intend to use. Do not disable or reconfigure Cross Save casually; account changes can affect access to your current Destiny 2 characters under Bungie’s account rules.

Record what you own by category
If Bungie later publishes migration instructions, a clear inventory will make the announcement easier to interpret. Record expansion licenses by platform, Silver balances, Rewards Pass purchases, and notable earned items separately. A single “I own Destiny 2” label is not precise enough to determine an entitlement.

Keep purchase records
Save platform receipts and the Bungie account associated with each purchase. This cannot create a transfer right that Bungie has not announced, but it can help resolve an existing Destiny 2 entitlement problem if a platform or account is misidentified.
Do not buy something solely for an assumed future transfer
There is no confirmed next-game edition, preorder or transfer offer in Bungie’s published statements. Make a purchase for its value in Destiny 2 under the current license terms, not on the assumption that it will unlock content in a different game.
What a real carryover announcement would need to explain
When Bungie eventually provides details, look for explicit answers rather than broad language about continuity. A complete policy should identify the following:
- Account identity: whether the same Bungie account, platform account or a newly created profile is required.
- Character progression: whether classes, levels or power, campaign completion and quest history transfer, reset or convert.
- Achievements and collections: whether triumphs, titles, seals, collections and other account records are recognized.
- Earned gear and cosmetics: which weapons, armor, ornaments, shaders, emblems, ships and sparrows, if any, are imported.
- Paid DLC: whether an expansion license is honored, replaced by a new entitlement or excluded, and whether the answer differs by platform.
- Passes and seasonal content: what happens to purchased, claimed and unclaimed pass rewards.
- Premium currency: whether Silver is refunded, converted, left in Destiny 2 or unavailable in the new release.
- Timing and eligibility: the cutoff date, regions, platforms, account-link requirements and any opt-in process.
- Limits: whether transfer is one-time, reversible, account-wide or restricted to selected items.
Until those points are published, statements that Destiny is “not done” should be read as a commitment to the franchise’s future, not as a technical migration specification.
Why online claims about guaranteed transfer are unreliable
Several different systems can look similar to players: Cross Save can make a character appear on another platform; a DLC license can unlock an expansion on one platform; a Rewards Pass can be shared through Cross Save; and Silver-funded items can be usable across platforms under the current rules. None of those facts demonstrates that a separate game will import the same data.
Likewise, the end of planned Destiny 2 content updates does not mean Bungie has announced an account reset, and the promise of future Destiny stories does not mean Bungie has announced a direct sequel. The only defensible answer remains category-specific and limited to what Bungie has actually documented.
Bottom line for Destiny 2 players
As of October 2026, Bungie has not announced whether Destiny 2 progress or purchases will carry over to its next Destiny game. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny continues beyond Destiny 2’s planned live-service schedule, while Destiny 2 remains playable. Cross Save, DLC licensing, Silver and Rewards Pass rules explain access within Destiny 2; they do not answer cross-game transfer questions. Wait for a dedicated Bungie policy before treating any character, item, license or currency as transferable.
