Yes, some EA games now feature advertising, but EA has not announced ads across all AAA titles or paid games. On June 15, 2026, the company introduced EA Advertising, describing in-game ad units in select EA SPORTS games and custom brand integrations across its portfolio. Its named examples are concentrated in sports games; EA has not specified a universal rollout.
What changed between 2024 and 2026?
In May 2024, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the company had teams exploring “very thoughtful implementations” of advertising inside games. The remark came in response to an investor asking about dynamic ad insertion in traditional AAA games. It indicated internal exploration, not a confirmed plan to put ads in every premium release. PC Gamer reported Wilson’s comments from the investor-call exchange.
On June 15, 2026, EA announced EA Advertising and said native ad units were available in select EA SPORTS games. The announcement moves the story from exploration to a public advertising platform, but it does not identify all participating games or promise ads in every genre or paid title. EA’s announcement describes the formats and named activations.
EA denied in 2021 that it was then considering TV-style console ads or had signed agreements to implement them. That statement addressed the situation at the time and is not a contradiction of the later 2026 announcement. GameSpot reported the 2021 denial.

What kinds of ads has EA described?
| Format | How it appears | Example or evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamic in-world ad units | Ad inventory appears within a game’s 3D environment, including digital boards, scoreboards, or broadcast overlays. It is presented as part of the sports setting rather than as a separate TV-style commercial. | EA says these units are available in select EA SPORTS games and that measurement aligns with IAB standards, with Integral Ad Science supporting viewability and measurement. EA’s announcement. |
| Custom brand integrations | A brand is built into a game activity or content, such as a challenge, objective, branded content, team kit, or vanity item. These can involve player interaction or rewards. | EA’s named activations include Lowe’s challenges and branded player content, Red Bull objectives and kits, and Mountain Dew’s playable “DEW University” team experience. EA’s announcement. |
The distinction matters: a dynamically served board in a stadium scene is different from choosing to play a branded challenge or using a branded customization item. EA’s announcement does not establish how often players will encounter either format, whether every placement can be avoided, or how players generally feel about them.
Which games and brands has EA named?
EA’s public examples are sports-oriented. They show that advertising can take different forms, but they do not establish that EA has announced ads across all premium AAA franchises.

- 6.2” LCD screen
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
- Lowe’s: Ultimate Team challenges and branded player content across EA SPORTS FC, Madden NFL, and College Football. EA reports more than 987,000 games played and more than 200,000 challenges completed for these integrations.
- Red Bull: branded objectives, team kits, and athlete ambassador collaborations in EA SPORTS FC. EA reports more than 128 million matches played and 1.2 million objectives completed.
- Xfinity and Peacock: dynamic in-stadium and broadcast-style integrations, vanity kits, Ultimate Team Packs, and personalized rewards in EA SPORTS FC 26.
- Mountain Dew: EA describes “DEW University” as a playable team experience in EA SPORTS College Football 26, with a custom stadium, mascot, and rewards.
- Visa: EA identifies Visa as a partner of EA SPORTS FC and EA SPORTS College Football, with activations and access opportunities.
These engagement totals are figures EA reported in its announcement, not independent estimates. EA also says EA SPORTS FC has more than 1 billion matches each month; that is a company-reported franchise activity figure, not a measure of ad exposure. EA’s announcement lists the figures and examples.
EA separately estimates that its games and services had more than 120 million players each month during fiscal year 2026 across console, mobile, and PC. EA cautions that measuring large global populations is inherently difficult: someone using multiple games or devices may be counted more than once. This company estimate describes reach, not the number of people who saw a particular ad. EA provides the estimate and its counting caveat.

Can players turn the ads off?
EA’s privacy guidance distinguishes targeted EA marketing—such as offers, reminders, and other EA content—from third-party product advertising in some games and services. The available controls are preference settings, not a universal promise of an ad-free game.
- PC and console: EA says targeted EA marketing preferences can be changed through the EA account portal.
- Mobile: EA says the relevant control is in each game’s settings.
- Third-party ads: EA has a separate setting for games that feature third-party advertising. Its guidance says opting out may leave marketing or ads visible, although they may be less relevant.
EA’s guidance does not say that opting out removes all advertising or guarantees that an in-world placement can be avoided. See EA’s My Privacy Rights guidance for the current account and game preference information.

What EA’s announcement does—and does not—establish
EA Chief Experiences Officer David Tinson said the company aims to give brands ways to appear that “add value and respect the player experience” while maintaining authenticity. That is EA’s stated goal, not independent evidence of how each placement will feel in play. The announcement documents formats, partnerships, and company-reported campaign activity; it does not provide an independent assessment of player impact.
For now, the strongest supported conclusion is limited: EA has launched a platform for advertising in select games, with public examples centered on EA SPORTS. Whether additional AAA games adopt ads—and which formats they use—has not been specified.
