IRONMACE’s documented offer is narrower: players who bought the Standard Edition or Founders Edition before the Steam relaunch could migrate their Blacksmith account data to Steam, or another platform they choose. The eligibility cutoff is a purchase made before June 7, 2024 (UTC). IRONMACE’s published materials do not say whether that offer is still open on October 8, 2026, so anyone acting on it should confirm with IRONMACE Support first.
What IRONMACE actually offered
The offer is described in IRONMACE Support’s “Migration Guide for Legacy Blacksmith Users,” last updated August 4, 2025 and attributed to Cerbe. The guide does not hand out a Steam product key. It moves the account data that a legacy Blacksmith player already has onto a platform of their choice, and Steam is one of the named options. The guide states the eligibility rule directly: “This Blacksmith Migration is only available to accounts that purchased the game before June 7, 2024 (UTC).”
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The guide also makes clear that staying on Blacksmith requires no action. Migration is optional, and players who want to keep playing through Blacksmith do not need to do anything to their account.
Who qualifies
Eligibility depends on three things at once: the purchase, the destination account, and the history of the Blacksmith account itself.
#1 Best Overall
- The purchase: the account must hold a Standard Edition or Founders Edition purchase made before the Steam relaunch. The guide’s cutoff is June 7, 2024 (UTC). The Steam store listing separately shows June 7, 2024 as the release date, which is consistent with that cutoff.
- The destination account: the Steam account must have no purchase history, including DLC or Redstone Shards. It must also have no characters, or any characters it has must be deleted before the transfer.
- The Blacksmith account’s history: the Blacksmith account must never have been platform-linked or platform-selected from the cross-platform state.
A player who fails any one of these conditions cannot complete the transfer as documented, even if they bought the game before the cutoff. A Steam library that already contains a Dark and Darker purchase, a DLC purchase or Redstone Shards disqualifies that destination account. A Steam account used earlier for the game’s characters also needs cleanup before the transfer.
How the transfer works
The guide describes the following sequence. Follow it in order, because the code has a short lifetime.
- Launch Dark and Darker through Blacksmith, open Options, then open Account.
- Generate a migration code. The code expires after 10 minutes, so generate it only when you are ready to finish the remaining steps.
- Launch the game on the destination platform. The guide names Steam.
- Select Transfer my Blacksmith Account, enter the migration code, and link the account.
- Restart when the game prompts you to.
- Select the new platform to finish.
Step 6 is the point of no return. The guide warns that the transfer and the final platform selection cannot be undone, and it adds: “The transfer cannot be undone once it is complete.”

What the transfer does not do
- It does not grant a separate Steam key to every earlier purchaser. The guide describes account migration, so “Steam key” is not an accurate name for what it offers.
- It does not undo itself. Once the final platform selection is made, the Blacksmith account cannot be moved back.
- It does not apply to a player who wants to stay on Blacksmith. Those players can ignore it entirely.
If IRONMACE Support has issued a key or entitlement for a specific account, that would be a separate communication from the guide. Nothing in the migration guide describes such a grant, so do not assume one exists.
Is the offer still open?
The migration guide carries no closing date, and the official Dark and Darker play page does not mention migration at all. The play page confirms that the game is currently free on Steam and on Blacksmith, which tells you where the game is available but not whether a particular legacy account can still migrate. As of this writing, no official source reviewed here confirms that migration requests are still being accepted.
If your eligibility depends on acting now, contact IRONMACE Support before you generate a code or change any account settings. Ask specifically whether a Standard Edition or Founders Edition purchase made before June 7, 2024 (UTC) is still eligible for Blacksmith-to-Steam migration, and confirm that your Steam account meets the destination conditions above.

Staying on Blacksmith or moving to Steam
The choice is between keeping your account where it is and moving its data to Steam. The table compares what each path requires.
| Option | What it involves | Requirements | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stay on Blacksmith | No action; the account stays on Blacksmith | None documented in the migration guide | Not applicable |
| Migrate to Steam | Blacksmith account data moves to a Steam account via a 10-minute migration code | Purchase before June 7, 2024 (UTC) as Standard or Founders Edition; clean Steam destination with no purchases and no characters (or deleted characters); Blacksmith account never platform-linked or platform-selected | No. The transfer and final platform selection cannot be undone. |
Choose Steam if you want the game launched through Steam and you have a clean Steam account ready. Stay on Blacksmith if your Steam account already holds purchases or characters you do not want to delete, or if you are not comfortable with an irreversible step.
The free base game and Legendary Status
IRONMACE’s play page describes Dark and Darker as free on Steam and on Blacksmith. Players can support the developer by purchasing Legendary Status, which is optional DLC. The Steam listing describes the game as an online multiplayer fantasy dungeon adventure, with IRONMACE named as developer and publisher. Neither official page says whether a migrated account carries over DLC entitlements, so do not assume it does.
