Not always. Mizora’s Act Three encounter can end a romance, but the result depends on your current partner and, in two cases, your response afterward. Wyll, Gale, Lae’zel and Minthara break up with you; Karlach gives an ultimatum; Spawn Astarion can stay or leave; and Shadowheart, Halsin and Ascended Astarion do not object in the documented camp event.
The encounter is a single-night proposition, not a replacement for a full companion romance. Because the offer is missable, decide what you want before accepting it.

The quick answer: Mizora does not ruin every romance
Mizora’s proposition is a separate Act Three camp event involving Wyll’s devilish patron. Accepting it does not apply one universal “romance broken” result to the whole party. The game checks which companion you are dating and, for Karlach and Spawn Astarion, how you handle the follow-up conversation.

What the Mizora scene actually is
The scene is a one-night encounter offered in Act Three after the camp conversation about Wyll’s pact. It is not a new companion romance route and it does not replace the companion-specific scenes that establish or advance a relationship. The proposition is presented as dialogue at camp; accepting it schedules the intimate scene for that same long rest.
Mizora’s language is deliberately theatrical. After the encounter, one reproduced line reads: "You’re forever marked. Can’t you feel it, where my lips scorched your skin? How your soul burns with flame?" That is flavor text, not a mechanical statement about whether your partner will leave.
The practical question is therefore not “Does Mizora always break romances?” but “Which companion am I partnered with, and what response does that companion require?”
Companion outcomes in detail
Wyll: the relationship ends automatically
If Wyll is your current partner, accepting Mizora’s proposition ends the relationship regardless of the dialogue options you choose afterward. There is no persuasion line that turns this particular result into a continuing romance in the current camp-event reference.
Do not confuse this event with Wyll’s own romance progression. Wyll’s romance is a separate path: it is initiated during the Act One Tiefling celebration, and its Act Two scene has additional requirements, including dating him and reaching at least 20 approval. The romance conditions are listed separately in Wyll’s romance reference. Mizora’s one-night offer is an external encounter, not a hidden step in that path.

Gale, Lae’zel and Minthara: documented breakups
Gale, Lae’zel and Minthara are also listed as ending the relationship after the Mizora encounter. The available outcome reference does not give these three a Karlach-style ultimatum or a Spawn Astarion-style “be honest” branch; treat accepting the scene as a breakup decision if one of them is your partner.
Older guides sometimes describe only one of these outcomes because they were based on an individual playthrough or an incomplete set of companion checks. The companion-by-companion camp-event data is the more useful reference when planning a current run.

Karlach: an ultimatum, not an automatic breakup
Karlach does not simply follow the automatic-breakup rule. She confronts you and gives an ultimatum. Your response determines whether she stays with you, so the encounter is reversible only through the dialogue branch the game presents at that point.
That makes Karlach different from Wyll: accepting the scene creates a relationship crisis, but it is not by itself the final breakup flag. Save before accepting if you want to inspect the available response without committing to the result.
Spawn Astarion: honesty and seriousness matter
For Spawn Astarion, the result is conditional. He can remain in the relationship if you are honest with him and treat the relationship seriously. If your replies show that you are not taking him seriously, he can leave.

The current camp-event entry records no objection from Ascended Astarion, Shadowheart or Halsin. In other words, accepting Mizora’s encounter does not end those relationships in the documented event outcome. This is a statement about the event’s romance check, not a promise that unrelated story choices can never alter a companion relationship.
How to trigger the encounter without missing it
Mizora’s offer has a narrow timing window. The pact reference says it appears at camp after the relevant Wyll pact conversation, when a camp exclamation mark signals that she has something to say.
- Reach Act Three and complete the Wyll-related pact conversation. The offer follows that camp progression; it is not available as a general Act One or Act Two romance scene.
- Watch for the camp exclamation mark. Speak to Mizora while the marker is active. Do not assume the offer will wait indefinitely.
- Accept the proposition in that dialogue. Declining closes the path. If you accept, the intimate scene occurs during the same long rest.
- Make a manual save before accepting. This is especially useful with Karlach or Spawn Astarion, whose reactions depend on your later answers, and for anyone who wants to preserve a pre-breakup state.
- Long rest to play the scene. The event is tied to that rest rather than being a permanently available interaction at camp.
Act Three events that close Mizora’s offer
The offer can disappear when major Wyrm’s Rock, Iron Throne or endgame milestones advance. The current pact reference lists these hard cutoffs:
| Game-state change | Effect on the offer |
|---|---|
| Resolve the Iron Throne | Closes the opportunity. |
| Destroy the Steel Watch Foundry | Closes the opportunity. |
| Kill Gortash or Ravengard at Wyrm’s Rock | Closes the opportunity. |
| Cross the Morphic Pool | Closes the opportunity. |
For the safest route, trigger Mizora’s offer before entering the Iron Throne. After that point, camp dialogue changes to address Ravengard’s fate, and the proposition may no longer be available. These conditions can be patch-sensitive, so the exact behavior may vary by game version and platform.

Why guides disagree about the romance consequences
Early coverage often reported one player’s result rather than a complete roster of romance flags. A September 5, 2023 GameSpot guide described a Shadowheart playthrough that remained active, said Karlach could potentially be talked around, and confirmed Lae’zel ending the romance. It also noted that several companions had not been confirmed at the time. That is useful as an attributed account of that run, but it should not be read as a universal rule for every partner.
The later companion-specific camp-event and pact pages provide the fuller roster used in the table above. They are community-maintained mechanics references rather than official Larian documentation, so keep the game’s patch and platform in mind when reproducing a result.
Larian’s official Patch 5 notes include the sentence, “Mizora should appear for her judgement of Wyll only when Karlach is actually dead.” That note confirms a patched condition for Mizora’s Wyll-related appearance; it does not document the later romance-breakup table. It is therefore evidence about event availability, not proof that every partner reacts the same way.
A practical decision guide before you accept
- Dating Wyll, Gale, Lae’zel or Minthara? Treat acceptance as a breakup choice. Finish the companion relationship you want first, or reload a save if preserving it matters.
- Dating Karlach? Accept only if you are prepared to answer her ultimatum. Save before the conversation so you can return to the pre-event state.
- Dating Spawn Astarion? Be direct about what the encounter means to you and choose replies that show you take him and the relationship seriously.
- Dating Ascended Astarion, Shadowheart or Halsin? The documented camp event records no objection, although unrelated story decisions remain separate.
- Not sure which event state you have? Check whether Astarion is Spawn or Ascended and whether the partner relationship is actually active before triggering the scene.
Is Mizora’s encounter worth doing?
That is a role-playing decision rather than a universal mechanical recommendation. The scene is a deliberately provocative Wyll-and-Mizora story beat, but its cost can be a permanent breakup with four partners and a conditional confrontation with two others. If your priority is companion approval or preserving a specific romance, trigger the event only after making a save and confirming the outcome category for your partner.

If you are pursuing the encounter for story content, do it before the listed Act Three cutoffs and before the offer is lost. If you are pursuing Wyll’s romance, remember that Mizora’s scene is not required to advance it and, when Wyll is your partner, accepting it ends that relationship.
