No. Shadows of Oblivion is a tabletop expansion for The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era, not a newly announced Elder Scrolls video-game RPG. Its purpose is to add ways to approach that board game’s builds, party composition, and challenges—not to replace the series’ traditional video games.
What is Shadows of Oblivion?
Chip Theory Games described Shadows of Oblivion in an October 16, 2025 campaign update as the first volume of an expansion for The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era. The publisher says it is designed to make players reconsider their builds, party composition, and strategies. Chip Theory Games’ campaign update frames the goal as offering new ways to experience content in the board game.

The expansion’s described hook is Daedric prince content resembling side quests, each with a blessing and a curse. The publisher recommends using both, but says players can choose one or the other to adjust the difficulty. The October 2025 update named Hermaeus Mora, Sheogorath, Mehrunes Dagon, Azura, and Sanguine in the first volume, and described Peryite as a future stretch goal at that time. That campaign-era list should not be treated as a verified final component inventory.

The formats and roles are different. Shadows of Oblivion is additional tabletop content for an existing board game; it is not a standalone video game. The publisher’s description supports viewing it as an expansion that changes how a board-game session can be approached, not as a replacement for the open-ended video-game RPG experience.

No. Gates of Oblivion is a separate The Elder Scrolls Online story saga. ESO’s official update history associates the saga with Blackwood, Waking Flame, and Deadlands. The official ESO updates page provides the relevant game-update context; it does not identify the tabletop expansion as part of that saga.

Daedric realms also appear in other ESO stories. For example, Bethesda’s Necrom preview discusses Apocrypha and places Necrom within the Shadow Over Morrowind adventure. That is separate video-game content, not another name for Shadows of Oblivion.

- Confirm you want a tabletop game. The product is an expansion for Betrayal of the Second Era, not a new Elder Scrolls video game.
- Check the base-game requirement. Since the expansion is designed for that board game, check whether you own or want the base game before considering the add-on.
