Will Sony Still Release PlayStation Single-Player Games on PC? What the 2026 Reports Say

Sony's reported PC pullback targets major in-house single-player games, not every Sony-published title. Here's what the March and May 2026 reports say.

For now, the reported direction is that Sony will keep major, in-house PlayStation single-player games on PlayStation hardware rather than release them on PC. March 2026 reports said planned PC versions of Ghost of Yotei and Saros had been canceled; in May, Gematsu reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hermen Hulst told employees the company would no longer bring its big single-player titles to PC. This is a reported policy direction, not a permanent guarantee—and it does not mean every game published by Sony is leaving PC.

What Sony’s reported PC pullback covers

The distinction is about who makes a game and what kind of game it is, not simply whether Sony publishes it. The March reporting described the change as applying to major single-player games made in-house by PlayStation Studios. It also described multiplayer games and selected titles made by external studios but published by Sony as exceptions. Ars Technica’s summary of Bloomberg’s reporting and Gematsu’s report both make that distinction.

Category What the March 2026 reports said What to infer
Major, in-house single-player games Planned PC versions of Ghost of Yotei and Saros were reportedly canceled. This is the reported target of the pullback; it does not establish a rule for every future game.
Multiplayer and online games Games such as Marathon were described as continuing to reach PC. Online titles were reported as exceptions, but check each game’s specific PC announcement.
Externally developed games published by Sony Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Kena: Scars of Kosmora were described as still planned for PC at the time. Sony publishing a game does not mean Sony developed it—or that its PC release is guaranteed. Those were dated plans, not a promise of present availability.

Which PlayStation games were reportedly staying off PC?

Ghost of Yotei and Saros

Bloomberg’s reporting, as relayed by Ars Technica and Gematsu on March 4, 2026, named these two games as having had their planned PC versions canceled. The reports described them as major single-player releases and said they would remain on PS5. The claim was based on reporting, not a public Sony announcement of a permanent exclusivity policy. Ars Technica and Gematsu provide the dated accounts.

Other future single-player releases

The May 18, 2026, report by Gematsu broadened the picture: it said SIE Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst told employees that Sony would no longer release its big single-player titles on PC, while online games would remain available there. Because the reported town-hall transcript was not available for independent review, this should be read as Gematsu’s account of an internal statement—not a verbatim public Sony policy document. The report describes the current direction, but does not prove that Sony will never change course. Gematsu’s May report attributes the statement to Hulst.

Are any Sony-published games still coming to PC?

The March reports said yes, in some cases. They identified multiplayer titles such as Marathon, as well as externally developed Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, as exceptions or titles still planned for PC at that time. That does not establish that every online game or Sony-published game will get a PC version, or confirm that those dated plans remain current. Look for a specific, current PC release announcement for the game you care about.

This is why “Sony game” can be misleading shorthand. Sony can publish a game made by another studio, while the reported pullback centers on major single-player games developed in-house. A publisher label alone is not enough to predict a PC release.

How Sony got here: PC releases since 2020

Sony’s PC push for major single-player games began in 2020 with Horizon Zero Dawn, after a history in which its first-party games were not released on PC, according to the March reporting. That strategy was never a simple “everything comes to PC” commitment: Sony’s 2024 investor presentation described a portfolio spanning single-player, narrative-focused games and multi-genre live-service titles, and labeled live-service releases as PS5 + PC—with MLB The Show called out as an exception. The presentation is useful context for the different release approaches, but it does not establish why Sony later changed its plans. Sony’s 2024 Game & Network Services investor presentation.

Why is Sony reportedly pulling back?

Bloomberg’s sources reportedly pointed to concerns about the PlayStation console brand and hardware sales. That is attributed rationale, not a confirmed public explanation from Sony. The available reports do not provide PC-specific sales figures, revenue comparisons, or internal forecasts that would let readers verify a claim that PC ports performed poorly. It is therefore more accurate to describe the rationale as reported concern than as a proven sales outcome.

What PC players should expect

  • For major in-house single-player games: do not assume a PC version will follow a PS5 release; the reported direction is toward PlayStation hardware exclusivity.
  • For online and multiplayer games: PC releases may continue, but the category is not a guarantee for any individual title.
  • For games Sony publishes but did not develop: evaluate each game’s own announcement and release information rather than treating Sony’s publishing role as proof it will be console-only.
  • For titles already given PC plans: treat plans reported in March 2026 as dated; Sony’s plans can change, and no individual release should be assumed current without confirmation.

The bottom line is a narrower PC pipeline for Sony’s major in-house single-player games, not a blanket end to Sony games on PC. The practical question is whether a specific title is in-house and single-player, and whether Sony has actually announced a PC version.
