Aliens: Dark Descent’s April 26, 2023 release trailer paired cinematic footage with brief glimpses of tactical gameplay. It announced the game’s June 20, 2023 launch, but it was not a full gameplay demonstration. The game is a real-time, squad-based tactical action title: players command four Colonial Marines together, issue orders from a top-down view, and can slow time to make decisions.
What the release trailer shows
Focus Entertainment’s April 26, 2023 announcement introduced a cinematic trailer with gameplay glimpses. Its focus was the game’s launch announcement and atmosphere, rather than a detailed explanation of its mechanics.

Focus followed it on May 25 with a separate Gameplay Overview Trailer, which the publisher described as a deeper look at the narrative, protagonists, and gameplay systems. That later video is the better reference for viewers seeking an extended overview of how the game plays.
How the real-time strategy gameplay works
The “real-time strategy” description is best understood as squad tactics, not as a traditional strategy game built around controlling armies or constructing a base. According to the publisher’s June 13, 2023 FAQ, the player commands a top-down squad of four Colonial Marines and gives them orders in real time. Players can slow time to weigh decisions while responding to danger.

- Manage consequences: The publisher describes persistent, reactive levels, tactical abilities, squad progression, and permanent death for Marines who fall in combat.
Romain Clavier, Game Director at developer Tindalos Interactive, called it “a strategic real time squad-based tactical action game with rich management systems and twisted horrors.” In a May 25, 2023 PlayStation Blog post, he also wrote that “the constant threat of a Xenomorph attack creates a sense of urgency and danger” while strategic gameplay adds depth to players’ responses.

Aliens: Dark Descent is set in the Alien universe and tells an original story on Moon Lethe. Tindalos Interactive developed the game, Focus Entertainment published it, and the release announcement identified 20th Century Games as a collaborator.

Focus announced June 20, 2023 as the release date and listed PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. PlayStation’s official product page also lists June 20, 2023 for the PS5 and PS4 versions. The April announcement said digital and retail pre-orders were open at the time; that historical announcement does not establish current stock at any retailer.
