Possibly in the future, but there is no confirmed post-merger price increase, catalog change, or plan migration for existing subscribers. As of October 4, 2026, Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery had received key regulatory clearances, but Paramount still described the transaction as pending completion. That means there is no established answer yet to whether your streaming bill will go up, shows or movies will leave your service, or you will need a different plan.
Which studio merger is this?
The relevant deal is Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), not the earlier proposed Netflix-WBD transaction. WBD’s 2025 Form 10-K says the company terminated its Netflix merger agreement when it entered into the Paramount agreement on February 27, 2026. The filing says the Paramount transaction remains subject to its terms and conditions. WBD’s 2025 Form 10-K

Regulatory milestones do not, by themselves, establish that the transaction has closed or explain what subscribers will pay or watch. The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) recorded clearance of the anticipated acquisition on August 6, 2026. Paramount’s announcement that day said 66 jurisdictions had either cleared the transaction or chosen not to challenge it on competition and/or foreign direct investment grounds, and described completion as a future step. That tally is Paramount’s account of regulatory status, not a finding about subscriber outcomes. CMA case record · Paramount’s clearance announcement
What regulators have—and have not—said
On June 12, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said it had completed an eight-month review, examining more than two million documents from more than 80 custodians. It concluded that the proposed merger was not likely to harm competition or American consumers, including in subscription video on demand (SVOD). This is a competition assessment; it is not a price schedule, a promise about plan availability, or a guarantee that a particular title will stay on a particular service. What is confirmed for subscribers today?
- Price: The official sources reviewed do not announce a new subscriber price or a date when an existing customer’s bill will change.
- Shows and movies: They do not set out a final catalog or say that a named title will move, disappear, or become exclusive to another service.
- Plans and accounts: They do not give subscriber-facing terms for bundles, plan changes, account migration, or cancellations.
A combined owner could choose to change distribution, packaging, or content rights later. Until a service announces the specific change and its effective date, that is a possibility—not a confirmed outcome of this deal.
Why the deal’s status matters
As of October 4, 2026, the available official materials showed key regulatory clearances but still described completion as pending. A clearance records a regulator’s decision; it does not tell an individual subscriber when a transaction closes or what a company will do with prices, apps, plans, or titles afterward. The DOJ’s conclusion and the CMA’s clearance are therefore not evidence that an existing customer’s subscription terms have changed. Could consolidation still affect choice or affordability?
It is reasonable to watch for changes, but forecasts and advocacy are not announcements. A December 17, 2025 Senate Commerce Committee affordability snapshot argued that streaming consolidation could reduce standalone choices and put pressure on consumers to accept larger bundles. That policy argument predates the final Paramount agreement and does not establish that this deal will raise prices or require a bundle. Senate Commerce Committee affordability snapshot
Paramount, by contrast, said the combination would enhance consumer choice and help create a scaled competitor. That is the company’s stated position, not a demonstrated benefit or a specific promise about what subscribers will receive. Paramount’s clearance announcement

What to check if a service announces changes
Use the dated notice for your country and subscription tier, rather than assuming every customer will be affected in the same way. Compare the concrete terms before deciding whether to keep, change, or cancel a plan:
- Monthly price by tier and country, including when the new price takes effect.
- Which services and titles are included, and whether the catalog differs by plan.
- Whether the plan includes ads, and any limits on simultaneous streams or downloads.
- Whether your account will migrate automatically, what happens to billing, and how cancellation works.
These are the terms to look for if a change is announced; no final subscriber-facing terms for them are established in the official materials cited here.
