Windows 11 24H2 gaming problems: RGB-related components
Microsoft reported that, after updates released August 11, 2026 and later, some devices could fail to run certain games as expected. Reports named ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS. Symptoms included a game becoming unresponsive, closing unexpectedly, an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION message, or an unexpected device restart.
Microsoft’s investigation attributed the problem to drivers or code components associated with RGB-equipped peripherals or internal components—not to Windows updates themselves. Some of those components may have names similar to inpoutx64. The reported trigger was launching certain games. Microsoft marked the issue resolved on August 26, 2026.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
What to do if a game still fails
- Check Microsoft’s current 24H2 status entry and the support information for the affected peripheral or internal component.
- Review the relevant device’s driver or RGB software for updates from its manufacturer.
- Do not assume that replacing a peripheral is necessary: Microsoft’s entry does not prescribe replacement as a fix.
Intel SST driver and 24H2 blue-screen risk
The Intel Smart Sound Technology issue applied only to devices combining an 11th Gen Intel Core processor with Intel SST driver version 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152. Microsoft documented a blue-screen risk and placed a compatibility hold on affected devices. In Device Manager, the controller appears under System devices as Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller; the associated file is IntcAudioBus.sys.
Check and update the driver
- Open Device Manager and expand System devices. Find Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller, then check its driver details and version.
- If the device has one of the affected versions, use Windows Update to check for a compatible driver. Microsoft says this is the preferred method for most users.
- The documented compatible versions are 10.30.00.5714 or later, or 10.29.00.5714 or later. Confirm that any driver is intended for your specific device.
- If Windows Update does not offer a suitable driver, contact the PC manufacturer for hardware-specific guidance. If the compatibility hold remains after updating, check with the manufacturer rather than forcing an installation.
While the issue was unresolved, Microsoft advised affected users not to install 24H2 manually using the Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool. For most users, updated drivers can be installed via Windows Update by checking for Windows updates on your device. This is Microsoft’s preferred method of installing these and other drivers.

Microsoft’s known-issues page, last updated October 7, 2026, listed a confirmed AC-3 (Dolby Digital) decoding issue for some applications after updates released September 22, 2026 and later. Depending on what an application is doing, it may fail to launch, close unexpectedly, or fail when a feature such as music playback is used. Microsoft noted that many modern applications use their own decoding components and will not encounter the issue; a resolution was still pending on that page.

Check Microsoft’s current lifecycle guidance, because the stated servicing date is near.
Quick Recap
How to tell whether a 24H2 issue applies to your PC
- Match the symptom. A blue screen, audio loss, a camera-app hang, or a game crash points to different documented incidents.
- Check the exact hardware and software. For Intel SST, verify the processor generation and driver version; for a game issue, check RGB-related device software and drivers.
- Compare the timing. Microsoft ties some incidents to particular updates or dates. A similar symptom alone does not prove the same cause.
- Read the current status and remedy. Use Microsoft’s known-issues and notifications page and its resolved-issues page, then follow the device maker’s guidance for hardware-specific drivers.
