Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →windows.ui.immersive.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system component, so a missing-file message usually points to damaged Windows files, an incomplete update, or a dependency problem rather than a missing Visual C++ or DirectX package. Repair Windows first instead of downloading a replacement DLL, then investigate the individual application if only one program still fails.
What this file actually does
Windows.UI.Immersive.dll belongs to Windows and is associated with the operating system’s immersive Windows UI components. Public Microsoft servicing records list the file in Windows updates, including separate 32-bit and 64-bit copies.

It is not a standalone game runtime, Microsoft Office component, Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX package, or .NET file. A third-party application can still trigger the message if it calls a Windows component incorrectly, has a damaged installation, or depends on another module that cannot load.
On 64-bit Windows, the normal locations are:
C:WindowsSystem32Windows.UI.Immersive.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64Windows.UI.Immersive.dll
The naming is confusing. System32 contains 64-bit system files on 64-bit Windows, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. Microsoft documents this behavior in its File System Redirector documentation.

Causes by symptom
| What you see | Most likely explanation | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| Settings, Start, Explorer, sign-in, or several Windows features fail | Corrupted or missing Windows component | Run DISM, then SFC |
| The problem began after Windows Update | Incomplete update or component-store damage | Check for updates, then use Windows repair options |
| Windows Security lists the file in Protection history | Quarantine or deletion | Review the detection, then repair Windows |
| Only one game or application fails | Damaged application, incompatible binary, or missing dependency | Repair or reinstall that application |
| “Specified module could not be found” appears while the DLL exists | A dependency may be missing | Check the affected program and event logs |
| The issue began after a driver, utility, or system modification | Recent system change | Try System Restore |
| The error follows crashes, disk problems, or malware symptoms | Broader file-system or operating-system damage | Scan, check storage health, and repair Windows |
Common message variants include:
The program can't start because windows.ui.immersive.dll is missing from your computer.
There was a problem starting windows.ui.immersive.dll. The specified module could not be found.
Error loading windows.ui.immersive.dll. The specified module could not be found.
The code execution cannot proceed because windows.ui.immersive.dll was not found.
windows.ui.immersive.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
These messages do not prove that the named DLL is the actual root cause. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency required by the named file.
Fix 1: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
This is the correct first repair when the file is missing, corrupted, or affecting Windows components. DISM repairs the Windows component store, and SFC uses that repaired source to restore protected system files.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Leave the elevated Command Prompt open.
Run System File Checker
After DISM finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
A successful repair may report that Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them. If the error disappears after restarting, no manual DLL replacement is needed.
If DISM cannot find repair source files, install pending Windows updates and run the commands again. Microsoft also documents using a matching installation source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace the example path with a valid source matching your Windows installation. Do not point DISM at a random downloaded folder.
Repeating SFC without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting tedious. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its scan identifies, while the repair function requires the full version; it is optional, and DISM/SFC remain the proper Windows servicing path.
Recommended Free Tools
If SFC says it could not repair some files, continue with Windows Update repair or an in-place repair installation rather than copying Windows.UI.Immersive.dll into System32.
Fix 2: Install pending Windows updates
A failed or incomplete update can leave the component store inconsistent.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Run DISM and SFC again if the DLL error remains.
On Windows 11, some installations provide a direct repair option:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Click Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version and is designed to preserve personal files, applications, and settings. The option is not available on every edition or configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 3: Review antivirus quarantine
If the message appeared immediately after a security scan, Windows Security may have quarantined or removed the file.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand the relevant detection.
- Check the detected path and reason before choosing any action.
Do not automatically restore the file. Only restore or allow it when you have established that the detection is a false positive and the file is genuinely part of your Windows installation. A restored file may be detected again.
For a Windows system component, the safer normal response is to run DISM and SFC, install Windows updates, and perform a malware scan. Do not disable antivirus protection just to force a DLL into a Windows folder.
Fix 4: Repair the application that reports the error
If Windows works normally and one game or application alone fails, the program may be damaged or may be reporting a dependency problem inaccurately.
First identify the executable named in the error. Then:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate the affected application.
- Select its menu button.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application.
- If Repair does not help, use Reset only if you understand that it may remove the program’s local settings and data.
For a traditional desktop program:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the application.
- Choose Repair or Change if the installer provides it.
- If repair is unavailable, uninstall it and reinstall it using the developer’s official installer.
For Microsoft Store applications, update Windows and Microsoft Store first, then use the application’s repair, reset, or reinstall option.
A game launcher’s Verify files feature is appropriate when the damaged file belongs inside the game’s own installation directory. It should not replace Windows servicing when the reported path is under C:Windows.
Do not assume that reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET will repair this Windows component. Those runtimes are relevant only when the application’s own diagnostics identify them as missing or damaged.
Fix 5: Check drivers only when the symptoms point there
A driver normally does not own Windows.UI.Immersive.dll, but a graphics, display, shell, or input problem can make a program fail while it reports a Windows UI module in the crash chain.

- Premium Hardware & Reliable Support – built with high-quality flash chips for speed and longevity. TECH STORE ON provides responsive customer support within 24 hours.
Use Device Manager to inspect recent driver changes:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Human Interface Devices, and any category related to the affected hardware.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver date and version.
- Use Roll Back Driver if the problem began immediately after an update and the button is available.
- Otherwise select Update Driver, or download the correct driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official support page.
Do not repeatedly change drivers when Settings, Explorer, and other Windows components are also failing. That pattern points back to Windows servicing.
Manually hunting through hardware support pages and guessing which driver is stale is avoidable. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates, while installing drivers requires the full version; it is optional and does not replace Windows repair or the application’s definitive reinstall.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is useful when the problem started after a driver, cleanup utility, update, or other system modification.
- Press Win + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore normally preserves personal files but rolls back system files, settings, drivers, and installed programs. If no suitable restore point exists, return to DISM/SFC and the Windows repair options.
Fix 7: Perform an in-place Windows repair
Use an in-place repair when DISM, SFC, Windows Update, and System Restore do not resolve the problem.
- Back up important files.
- Obtain official Windows installation media that matches your edition and language.
- Open the media in File Explorer.
- Run
setup.exe. - Follow the installation prompts.
- Select Change what to keep when offered.
- Choose Keep personal files and apps.
- Continue the installation.
This refreshes Windows components without the destructive process of formatting the drive. If the keep-files option is unavailable, stop and verify that the media matches the installed edition and installation type before proceeding.
Why regsvr32 is not the fix
Do not run this as a routine repair:
regsvr32 Windows.UI.Immersive.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified basis for manually registering this Windows UI component. The command can produce an error stating that the module loaded but the entry point was not found.
System DLL repair belongs to DISM, SFC, Windows Update, or Windows reinstallation. Do not delete files from WinSxS, and do not overwrite System32 or SysWOW64 with a downloaded copy.
How to verify the architecture and path
To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Start > Settings > System > About.
- Read System type.
- On 64-bit Windows, treat
System32as the 64-bit system directory andSysWOW64as the 32-bit directory. - On 32-bit Windows, the normal system directory is
C:WindowsSystem32.
A 32-bit DLL is not a substitute for a 64-bit DLL. Copying the wrong architecture may replace one error with another and can damage the application or Windows installation.
Avoid random DLL download sites
Downloading windows.ui.immersive.dll from an unfamiliar DLL website is risky because the file may contain malware, belong to a different Windows build, use the wrong architecture, or lack the servicing metadata Windows expects. It also often fails when the real problem is a missing dependency or corrupted component store.

If the error remains
Collect these details before seeking further support:
- Windows edition and build
- 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Exact error text
- The executable that fails
- Whether Windows components also malfunction
- The path shown for
Windows.UI.Immersive.dll - Event Viewer’s faulting application and faulting module
- Whether the issue began after an update, crash, cleanup tool, driver change, or antivirus event
Open Event Viewer with Win + X > Event Viewer, then inspect Windows Logs > Application around the failure time. A crash report mentioning this DLL does not prove that it caused the crash.
FAQ
Is windows.ui.immersive.dll a real Windows file?
Yes. It is a Microsoft Windows system component distributed through Windows servicing.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not as the first repair. This DLL is not identified as one of those runtimes. Install or repair them only when the affected application’s own diagnostics identify a specific runtime problem.
Should I copy the file into System32?
No. Use DISM followed by SFC, then Windows Update or an in-place repair if necessary.
Does regsvr32 apply?
No verified standard registration procedure applies to this file. It is not a general DLL repair command.
Why does a 32-bit program sometimes mention a Windows DLL?
A 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows uses the WOW64 environment and the 32-bit system-file path. That does not mean the 32-bit file can replace the 64-bit copy.

What if only one game fails?
Repair or reinstall that game using its launcher or official installer, verify its files, and check whether the error identifies a dependency. If the file path is under C:Windows, still repair Windows rather than copying a game-supplied DLL.
When is a clean reinstall necessary?
Consider a clean reinstall only after Windows repair, malware investigation, storage checks, and an in-place repair have failed, or when the installation has broader damage that cannot be repaired safely.
