Witcher Online lets PC players meet in The Witcher 3, explore together, chat, and take part in group activities—but it is not conventional co-op. Players can see one another and synchronize some actions, while enemies, NPCs, quests, and world state remain separate. The mod’s listing specifies a Steam or GOG copy at version 4.04 or later, but also warns that it is not tagged “Remastered Compatible,” so check the current compatibility notes before installing.
What Witcher Online lets you do
Witcher Online is a community-made multiplayer mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Its developer describes the goal as turning the single-player experience into an “MMO experience”; in practical terms, the central feature is seeing other players in the world, not sharing the full game simulation.

You can form parties, chat, emote, trade, duel in Gwent, and explore alongside friends. The mod page also lists morphs, sitting together at taverns through Chill Out, and riding or being carried by another player. Its listing advertises 50+ player emotes; that is the mod page’s stated feature count.
Some elements do synchronize. The developer README says player movement, combat, and appearance are synchronized. Parties can also synchronize time, weather, and dialogue choices; the party leader’s cutscene choice is applied to the party.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
What it does not synchronize
The key limitation is that the game world is not shared in the way it is in a typical co-op RPG. NPCs, quest progress, and world state do not synchronize. The Nexus listing specifically says monster synchronization is not implemented, so a friend will not see the monsters you are fighting.
That means seeing a friend fight does not mean you are fighting the same enemies, and completing a quest does not complete it for the rest of the party. Witcher Online provides a shared player presence and selected group features, not a jointly simulated campaign.
How to play quests together
The developer’s suggested approach is to use separate save files and coordinate your progress. Start the same quest, complete its steps at the same time, and choose the same dialogue options if you want your stories to stay aligned. This is parallel play: each player advances their own save rather than contributing to one shared quest state.
Party dialogue and cutscene synchronization can help keep choices together, but it does not change the underlying limit: quest completion and the wider world state are not shared.

Check compatibility before installing
The Witcher Online Nexus listing specifies a legitimate Steam or GOG copy of the game at version 4.04 or later. The same listing is not tagged “Remastered Compatible” and warns that the mod may only work with older game versions. Those statements leave compatibility with a particular current build uncertain; version 4.04+ should not be treated as a guarantee that every installation will work. Check the listing and setup guide for current requirements before you begin.

The setup guide names three required supporting mods: Community Patch – Shared Imports, Custom Player Characters, and Chill Out. Custom Player Characters requires the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine DLC. Settings Updater is optional; it supports a configurable keybind for opening the Witcher Online menu.
The listing says users do not need to run their own server for the described setup: the client connects automatically to the official Witcher Online server. Review the required-mods setup guide and the mod listing for current dependency and installation details.
Is Witcher Online available on consoles?
Do not confuse CD PROJEKT RED’s official mod.io menu with support for this particular mod. CD PROJEKT RED describes official mod.io support on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, but Witcher Online’s own listing specifies Steam and GOG PC requirements. The official console mod menu does not establish that Witcher Online is available on consoles. See CD PROJEKT RED’s cross-platform mod support information and verify platform availability on the mod’s own page.
Who should try it?
Witcher Online may suit friends who want to see each other in the Continent, explore together, chat, play Gwent, or coordinate their separate story runs. It is a poor fit if you expect shared enemy encounters, synchronized quest completion, or one common world that reacts to the whole party. Before installing, confirm your PC game build, required mods, and DLC—and decide whether coordinated parallel play is enough for your group.
