If Witcher Wannabe will not start, finish Contract: The Merry Widow, spend several in-game days away from Lindenvale doing other activities, then return and speak to the Ealdorman. Taking the village notice is not enough to begin the quest. If the quest is already active, check that you have killed the cemetery ghoul and followed its tracks with Witcher Senses before trying general troubleshooting.
First identify where progress is stopping
Witcher Wannabe is a secondary quest in Lindenvale, Velen. The right fix depends on whether the quest has not appeared yet or an active journal objective is stuck.
- Not in your journal: check the prerequisite and delayed start below.
- Active, but the objective will not update: follow the objective sequence and finish the encounter dialogue.
- The expected steps are complete but the journal remains stuck: use the publisher’s general PC recovery advice.
If Witcher Wannabe has not started
- Complete Contract: The Merry Widow. Walkthroughs identify it as a prerequisite for Witcher Wannabe (Game8 walkthrough; Witcher Wiki).
- Leave Lindenvale and spend several in-game days on other activities or exploration.
- Return to Lindenvale and speak with the Ealdorman to start the quest. A notice may point you toward the quest, but reading or taking it alone does not start it (GameBanshee walkthrough).
Guides differ on the wait: Game8 describes returning after five days, while Gamer Guides recommends leaving the area, doing other tasks for a few days, and suggests roughly a week may suffice (Game8; Gamer Guides). Those are walkthrough timings, not an official guarantee. If the quest has not appeared, try the longer wait with other activities rather than relying on meditation alone.
If the active objective will not advance
Use the journal objective as your checkpoint and verify the sequence described by walkthroughs:
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
- Go to the cemetery indicated by the objective.
- Kill the ghoul there.
- Activate Witcher Senses and follow the tracks to their end, where the impostor is hiding.
- Speak with the characters at the hiding place and complete the conversation. The villagers’ dialogue can lead to different outcomes.
If the journal has not updated, check the immediate task it names: the ghoul must be dead before the trail can be followed, and the trail needs to be followed to the hiding place before the encounter can proceed. The walkthroughs describe these quest steps; they do not establish that repeating them will repair a software fault (Game8; GameBanshee).
If the quest appears genuinely stuck on PC

- Verify the game files’ integrity. Use the verification option for the game in the launcher or store where you installed it.
- Load a save from before the problem. If possible, choose a save made before the objective stopped advancing.
- Check for a related quest that must be completed first. Review the journal for unfinished related objectives.
These steps come from CD PROJEKT RED’s general PC quest-progression guidance. The linked article covers PC; it does not establish equivalent platform-specific steps for consoles.

If the issue continues, contact CD PROJEKT RED support with the quest name, an affected save file, and details of any mods, console commands, or trainers used. The support article says those details may be crucial to investigating a progression problem. On PC, it lists saves at %userprofile%DocumentsThe Witcher 3gamesaves. Avoid treating console commands, save editing, or third-party downloads as routine fixes: the available sources do not document a confirmed Witcher Wannabe-specific procedure.

Is there a confirmed Witcher Wannabe bug?
The surfaced Next-Gen Update patch notes list other quest fixes and general quest corrections, but do not name Witcher Wannabe. That does not prove the quest is bug-free on every version or platform; it means these sources do not establish a dedicated current fix.
