wkcalpse.dll is a Microsoft Works Calendar component, not a Windows system DLL. Its internal description is Microsoft Works Calendar Print, Send To, Export, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the matching Microsoft Works installation rather than download a loose copy.
Microsoft Works 7.0 included a Calendar application through Works Suite, and historical file inventories place this module in a Works folder similar to:

The exact path can vary by Works edition, language, Windows version, and installation type. The filename alone also cannot prove which Works release you have. Catalog records associate it with Works 7 and Works 9 builds, while the available records are not an authoritative Microsoft manifest.
Do not copy a random wkcalpse.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. That can introduce the wrong Works build, wrong architecture, malware, or a file with missing companion components. It also does not repair Works registration, configuration, language resources, or the Calendar installation.

Fix 1: Repair Microsoft Works or Works Suite
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the highest-probability repair because wkcalpse.dll belongs to Works itself. Repairing the application restores the DLL together with the other Calendar modules it expects.
- Save copies of your Works documents and calendar data before changing the installation.
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - In Programs and Features, find Microsoft Works, Microsoft Works Suite, or the relevant Works entry.
- Select it and choose Change, Repair, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows when the repair finishes.
- Open Works Calendar and try the operation that originally failed.
Some older desktop programs do not expose a Repair button. Microsoft documents the general repair process and notes that the available options depend on the application.
If Windows asks for installation media, use the original licensed Works disc or a legitimate OEM recovery source. Microsoft does not currently provide a verified standalone Works 7 download or a standalone official wkcalpse.dll download.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Repair is not available
Uninstalling Works can remove access to the application, so first confirm that you have the original installer, licensed media, or a known-good backup.
- Return to Programs and Features.
- Select the Works entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall the same Works edition from its original licensed source.
- Apply any installer updates included with that media.
- Test Works Calendar before restoring custom files or changing compatibility settings.
Do not replace a Works 7 installation with a Works 9 DLL simply because both releases have been associated with the same filename. Different builds can expect different companion files and dependencies.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software can remove or quarantine a damaged, altered, or incorrectly detected application file. A missing file after a security event is different from a clean installation that never contained the module.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
wkcalpse.dll, Microsoft Works, or the Works installation directory. - Expand the event and review the detected path and action.
- Restore the file only if it is clearly from your licensed Works installation and the detection has been verified as a false positive.
- Restart Works and test Calendar.
If the file was found in a temporary folder, an unrelated application directory, or a system folder rather than the Works installation, do not restore it automatically. Run a full security scan and reinstall Works from trusted media instead.
A repaired installation is generally safer than restoring a quarantined DLL by hand because the installer can restore the complete Works component set. If Windows Security repeatedly removes the file, stop launching the program until the detection has been investigated.
Fix 3: Confirm the file path and avoid system-folder copying
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
The file should normally be beside the other Works Calendar components, not treated as a universal Windows runtime.

- Open File Explorer.
- Search the drive where Works is installed for
wkcalpse.dll. - Check the folder containing the result.
- Look for related Works Calendar files, including
WksCal.exeor other files in the Works Shared directory. - Right-click the DLL and choose Properties.
- Review the Details tab for the file description and version information.
- Compare the location with the Works installation path shown in Programs and Features.
A file existing somewhere on the computer does not prove that Works can load it. The copy may be from another Works release, may be corrupted, or may be outside the directory used by the application.
The available catalog records describe examples of 32-bit Win32 Works DLLs, including separate records associated with Works 7 and Works 9. These records are third-party metadata rather than a definitive Microsoft file list. A modern 64-bit Windows installation does not mean this legacy Works module should be 64-bit.
Fix 4: Understand “specified module could not be found”
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
The message “Error loading wkcalpse.dll. The specified module could not be found” is misleading. Windows may be saying that a dependency required by wkcalpse.dll is missing, not that the named DLL itself is absent.
Possible wording includes:
- “This application failed to start because wkcalpse.dll was not found.”
- “The file wkcalpse.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Error loading wkcalpse.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because wkcalpse.dll is missing from your computer.”
These are conventional loader messages and may vary by Windows version and the program’s startup path.
Use this sequence:
- Confirm that
wkcalpse.dllis in the Works installation folder. - Check whether other Works Calendar files were deleted or quarantined.
- Repair or reinstall Works rather than adding individual runtime files.
- If the error persists, inspect the application’s dependencies with a reputable diagnostic tool used by an experienced technician.
- Note the exact missing dependency, if identified.
- Install only the official, architecture-matched dependency from its vendor.
Do not install every Visual C++ Redistributable package as a guessing exercise. There is no evidence that wkcalpse.dll is a DirectX or .NET component. If a dependency analysis specifically identifies a Visual C++ runtime, use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable guidance and choose the architecture required by the Works process.
Fix 5: Account for 32-bit Works on 64-bit Windows
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Works 7 is a legacy 32-bit application. A 32-bit program can run on 64-bit Windows through WOW64, but it cannot load a 64-bit DLL. Conversely, a 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit DLL.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Windows also uses special redirection rules:
System32is associated with 64-bit system files on 64-bit Windows.SysWOW64is associated with 32-bit redirected system components.
That naming is confusing, but neither folder is the normal home for a Works application DLL. Copying wkcalpse.dll into either directory is not a proper architecture fix.
To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose About.
- Read System type.
To check whether Works is failing only under compatibility conditions:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose Troubleshoot.
- Open Other troubleshooters.
- Run Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
- Select Works when prompted.
- Test the recommended compatibility settings.
Compatibility mode cannot convert a missing or corrupt DLL into a working installation. It is useful when Works is intact but fails because newer Windows security, architecture, or system behavior differs from the environment for which Works was designed.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows is also damaged
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
System File Checker and Deployment Image Servicing and Management repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a third-party Microsoft Works DLL.
Use them when Windows itself shows broader symptoms, such as several unrelated applications failing, damaged Windows features, update errors, or system files reporting corruption.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Works Calendar again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but Works still fails, return to repairing or reinstalling Works. Repeating SFC will not normally restore a missing file from the Works Shared folder.
If you prefer a guided scan that identifies common Windows repair issues instead of manually comparing command output, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan detects; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling Works remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.

Fix 7: Test the printer and export path
Time needed: 10–25 minutes
The module’s description specifically mentions printing, sending, and exporting. If Works Calendar opens normally but crashes only when printing or exporting, the failure may involve the output path, printer driver, or target application rather than a missing DLL.
A historical Works Calendar report involved an error during export to Word or HTML. That does not prove every current export failure has the same cause, but it makes the failing operation important evidence.
First test the scope:
- Open Works Calendar.
- Browse an existing calendar without printing.
- Create or open a test calendar.
- Try a different export format, if available.
- Try printing to a different printer or to Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Note whether the crash occurs only on one printer, one export type, or every Calendar operation.
If only printing fails:
- Press
Windows+X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the affected printer.
- Choose Update driver.
- If that does not help, select Uninstall device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current driver supplied by the printer manufacturer.
- Test Works Calendar again.
Do not begin with a printer-driver reinstall if Works cannot open Calendar at all. In that case, repair Works first.

When manually tracking printer models, package versions, and Windows compatibility becomes tedious, Outbyte Driver Updater can use its free scan to show which drivers it identifies as stale; driver installation is handled by the full version, and a printer driver cannot repair a damaged Works installation.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when wkcalpse.dll worked previously and the problem began after a cleanup utility, software installation, driver change, or Windows update.

System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can roll back application files, drivers, registry settings, and system changes. Back up Works data before using it.
If no suitable restore point exists, return to the Works repair path. Do not use System Restore as a substitute for installation media.

What not to do
Do not download a random DLL
Unofficial DLL download pages can provide malware, an altered file, the wrong Works release, or the wrong architecture. Even a clean file may not fix the error because Works may also need companion modules, configuration, language resources, and the correct installation path.
Use licensed original Works media, a legitimate OEM recovery source, or a known-good backup from the same installation. Microsoft’s current Works lifecycle information does not provide a supported standalone Works 7 download.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not generic storage locations for application DLLs. On 64-bit Windows, redirection makes the choice even more confusing. Restore the file to its original Works folder only when you have an exact known-good copy from the same licensed installation.
Do not run regsvr32 automatically
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no public evidence that wkcalpse.dll is a self-registering COM server.

Information to collect before asking for help
Record these details:
- Your Works edition or Works Suite name
- Your Windows edition and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The exact error wording
- The operation that triggers it, such as startup, printing, sending, or export
- Whether
wkcalpse.dllexists - The complete folder path where it was found
- Whether Windows Security quarantined anything
- Whether repair or reinstall was attempted
- Whether Works fails for every Windows user account or only one
If Works fails only under one user account, test another account before changing system folders. That pattern can indicate damaged user-profile data or Works configuration rather than a missing Windows DLL.
FAQ
Is wkcalpse.dll part of Windows?
No. It is a Microsoft Works Calendar component. It is associated with the Calendar functions for printing, sending, and exporting.

- Make quick photo edits; easily correct and preserve photos with cropping tools, red eye removal, and more
Does the filename prove I have Works 7?
No. Works 7 is the primary identification associated with the file, but the same filename also appears in metadata for Works 9. The exact Works release must be established from the installed application or original media.
Recommended Free Tools
Why does the error appear when I export a calendar?
The module handles Calendar print, send, and export operations. A damaged Works installation, missing dependency, incompatible export target, or printer problem can surface when that code path loads.
Should I install DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++?
Not as a generic fix. There is no evidence that wkcalpse.dll is a DirectX or .NET component. Install a Visual C++ package only when dependency analysis specifically identifies the required Microsoft runtime and architecture.
Will SFC restore wkcalpse.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows components, while Works is a separate application. Use SFC when Windows has broader corruption, then repair Works separately.
Can Works 7 run on Windows 11?
It may run in some configurations, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Try the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter after confirming that the Works installation is complete.
What if the file exists but Works still reports it as missing?
The file may be corrupted, the wrong architecture, from the wrong Works version, blocked by security software, or dependent on another missing DLL. Reinstalling the complete matching Works installation is safer than replacing the file alone.
When is manual copying acceptable?
Only when restoring an exact known-good file from the same licensed installation, backup, or installation media to its original Works folder. It is not a substitute for repairing or reinstalling Works.
What if none of these fixes work?
Back up your Works data and consider running Works in a compatible older Windows environment or virtual machine. If you need long-term access, migrate the calendar data to a supported application where possible. Do not assume that installing another copy of wkcalpse.dll will solve a broader compatibility failure.
