On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit WMI components can also be associated with Windows’ 32-bit system redirection area. The correct location depends on the installed Windows component and the process requesting it. Do not choose a replacement based on a third-party version table.
Errors caused by wmipcima.dll
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because wmipcima.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “wmipcima.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading wmipcima.dll.”
- “wmipcima.dll could not be loaded.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in wmipcima.dll.”
These messages do not prove that the file itself is missing. “The specified module could not be found” can also indicate a missing dependency, damaged WMI registration, incorrect architecture, or broader Windows component corruption.
There is no reliable evidence tying this filename to one particular game or consumer application. If only one program reports the error, that program may be damaged even if Windows is healthy.
Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
A failed or incomplete update can leave protected Windows components inconsistent. Start with Windows Update before replacing anything manually.
Windows 11
- Open Start → Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install every available update.
- Restart when prompted.
- Open the affected program again.
If Windows 11 offers Fix problems using Windows Update, use it as an additional repair:
- Open Start → Settings.
- Select System → Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Click Reinstall now.
- Keep the options that preserve your apps, files, and settings.
- Allow Windows to complete the repair and restart.
The wording can vary by Windows 11 build. If the option is unavailable, continue with DISM and SFC.
Windows 10
- Open Start → Settings.
- Select Update & Security → Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install pending updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program again.
If the error started immediately after an update, note the update history before removing anything. Do not remove updates as a first step unless Windows Update repair and system-file repair have failed.

Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
This is the main repair for a missing, deleted, or corrupted Windows copy of wmipcima.dll. DISM repairs the Windows component store, and SFC uses that repaired source to check protected system files.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window because progress may pause for a while.
A successful result reports that the restore operation completed successfully or that no component-store corruption was detected. If DISM reports that source files could not be found, do not download wmipcima.dll. Windows needs a repair source matching the running Windows version, as described in Microsoft’s Windows image repair guidance.
Run SFC
After DISM finishes, run this command in the same elevated Command Prompt:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Then interpret the result:

If you prefer help identifying which Windows components changed instead of repeatedly guessing at commands, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repair actions require the full version.
Fix 3: Check whether Microsoft Defender quarantined the file
Security software may remove or quarantine a damaged-looking system file. Restoration is appropriate only when the file’s original path, publisher, signature, and detection details support a false positive.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Open entries related to
wmipcima.dll. - Read the detection name, original location, and action taken.
- Check whether the original path was under the Windows WMI directory.
- If the detection is clearly a false positive and the file is identified as a Microsoft-signed Windows component, use the available Restore action.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
Do not select Allow on device merely because an application requests the file. If the file was found in a temporary folder, a download directory, an application folder, or another unexpected location, leave it quarantined and run a full Microsoft Defender scan.
If Defender repeatedly removes the file, investigate malware or disk corruption rather than repeatedly restoring it.
Fix 4: Check the file path and digital signature
Before making changes, determine whether the named file is actually absent.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
%WINDIR%System32wbem
- Press Enter.
- Look for
wmipcima.dll.
If the file is present, right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Confirm that the description refers to the WMI Win32Ex Provider.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if it is available.
- Select the Microsoft signature.
- Click Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid.
A file’s presence does not prove that it is healthy. A valid path and signature are useful evidence, but DISM and SFC remain the correct repair tools.
If the file is absent from the expected WMI directory, do not copy a file from another computer. Run the DISM and SFC sequence instead.
Fix 5: Repair the affected application
If Windows passes DISM and SFC, Defender shows no relevant quarantine, and only one application fails, repair that application.
Use Windows app repair
For a Microsoft Store or supported desktop application:
- Open Start → Settings.
- Select Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Click Repair.
- Test the application.
- If Repair does not help, use Reset only after confirming that the app’s local settings or data can be recreated.
Repair a traditional desktop program
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs → Programs and Features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify, if offered.
- Follow the installer instructions.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If the application has its own launcher, use its Verify, Repair, or Scan files function. If no repair option works, uninstall and reinstall the application from its official publisher source.

A program that specifically requires an old version of wmipcima.dll may itself be incompatible or damaged. Installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET redistributables is not the default fix for this filename, because wmipcima.dll is a Windows WMI provider rather than a verified runtime component from those packages.
Fix 6: Check WMI and Windows optional features
Do not delete or rebuild the WMI repository casually. WMI is used by many Windows features, management tools, security products, and applications. Repository deletion can create more problems than it solves.

You can check whether Windows optional components are enabled:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Features.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.
- Review features related to the application that fails.
- If you change a feature, click OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Test the application again.
Do not enable unrelated features simply because a DLL error appears. wmipcima.dll is part of Windows WMI servicing, not a feature that should normally be installed by ticking a random optional-component box.

wmipcima.dll is not a graphics, printer, storage, or chipset driver file. However, a failing storage device or broken driver can trigger WMI-related errors or cause applications to request hardware information unsuccessfully.
Check Device Manager only when the error began after a hardware change, driver update, storage problem, or device failure.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories related to the affected hardware, such as Disk drives, Storage controllers, Display adapters, or System devices.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General tab and Device status.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Use Update Driver or Roll Back Driver only when the timing and device evidence support it.
- Restart Windows and retest.
Back up important files before changing storage-controller or disk drivers. If Device Manager reports no relevant problem, do not install a collection of unrelated driver packages to fix this DLL.
When identifying outdated drivers by hand, it is easy to choose the wrong hardware revision or architecture. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show which drivers are stale; the free scan identifies them, while driver installation requires the full version.
Fix 8: Use System Restore
System Restore can help when the error began after an update, driver installation, cleanup utility, or system change and a restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error started.
- Click Scan for affected programs.
- Review the programs and drivers that will be affected.
- Select Next → Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the rollback.
System Restore normally preserves personal files but can remove programs, updates, drivers, and settings installed after the selected restore point. If no suitable restore point exists, return to DISM and SFC or proceed to a repair installation.
Fix 9: Perform an in-place Windows repair
Use an in-place repair when Windows component repair fails, SFC cannot repair protected files, or several Windows features are malfunctioning.
Recommended Free Tools
Use official Windows installation media that matches the installed edition and architecture.
- Back up important files.
- Obtain Windows installation media from Microsoft.
- Start Windows normally.
- Open the installation media.
- Run
setup.exe. - Accept the license terms.
- When asked what to keep, select Keep personal files and apps.
- Confirm the choice.
- Start the installation.
- Allow Windows to restart as needed.
Do not boot from the media and choose a clean installation unless you intend to erase applications and data. The in-place option is the repair path that preserves installed applications, personal files, and settings when the matching option is available.
What not to do
Do not download wmipcima.dll from a DLL website
A downloaded file can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to a different Windows build, or have been modified. Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, the WMI directory, or an application folder can also hide the real cause.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, Defender, System Restore, or an in-place repair instead.
Do not copy the DLL from another computer
Even two computers running Windows 10 or Windows 11 may have different builds, servicing states, languages, architectures, or component revisions. A copied file can create version mismatches and signature problems.
Do not run regsvr32 as a generic fix
regsvr32 is intended for COM DLLs that provide the appropriate registration routines. Although available file metadata indicates that wmipcima.dll may expose a registration entry point, Windows normally installs and registers WMI providers through component servicing and WMI registration.
Running the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit regsvr32 does not repair a missing Windows component and can produce additional errors. Use it only when a qualified administrator has diagnosed a specific registration problem and has confirmed the correct architecture and registration procedure.
Do not delete the WMI repository
Do not rename, delete, or rebuild the WMI repository based only on a DLL error. Diagnose repository corruption first. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC before considering specialized WMI maintenance.
FAQ
Is wmipcima.dll safe?
The genuine file is a Microsoft Windows component associated with the WMI Win32Ex Provider. Verify its path and digital signature rather than trusting the filename alone.
Is wmipcima.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Historical listings include 32-bit versions, while 64-bit Windows can also use 32-bit WMI components through system redirection. The correct architecture depends on Windows and the process loading the provider. Do not replace the file based on a version-table entry.
Does wmipcima.dll belong to a game?
There is no verified evidence that it belongs to one particular game. A game may trigger the error while requesting Windows management information, but the DLL itself is a Windows WMI component.
Why does the message say the module could not be found when the file exists?
The loader may be unable to load a dependency, the file may be damaged, the calling process may have the wrong architecture, or WMI registration may be inconsistent. Check Event Viewer and repair Windows before copying files.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I reinstall Visual C++ or DirectX?
Not as the first response. wmipcima.dll is identified as a Windows WMI provider, not as a verified Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime file. Repair Windows first, then repair the application if only that application fails.
What if SFC and DISM cannot fix it?
Check the CBS log at:
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.log
Retry DISM with a matching repair source, check Defender history and disk health, use System Restore if available, and consider an in-place Windows repair. Back up important files before recovery work.
When should I contact support?
Escalate when the file is repeatedly quarantined, its signature is invalid, storage errors are present, multiple Windows features fail, malware is suspected, or an in-place repair does not restore WMI. Provide the exact error, reported path, Event Viewer details, DISM result, and SFC result.
