In the sense that fits the clues, a niche is a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted, according to Merriam-Webster. The word also has other meanings, including an architectural recess, an ecological role or habitat, and a specialized market.

Forbes’ Erik Kain reported solving the puzzle in three guesses. In his personal Wordle Bot analysis, his opening guess, SLIDE, left 27 possible solutions. That describes his own sequence, not a general measure of how difficult the puzzle was for players.
