  • The vowels are O and U; the word contains none of E, S, or T.

For a meaning-based clue, today’s word can describe something coarse, bumpy, uneven, or irregular. It can also describe a harsh manner or impolite behavior.

One reported solve for puzzle #1443

Forbes contributor Erik Kain described opening with HOIST, then guessing COUCH. That left DOUGH, BOUGH, and ROUGH as possibilities, and he chose ROUGH. This is his personal account of solving the puzzle, not a universal strategy or a tested recommendation.

For competitive scoring, Forbes lists 3 points for solving in one guess, 2 in two, 1 in three, 0 in four, −1 in five, −2 in six, and −3 for a miss. Xfire labels this puzzle “Normal” difficulty; no numeric solve-rate figure for #1443 is established here.
