Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use Item Restoration first when one or a few World of Warcraft items were accidentally sold, destroyed, or disenchanted. If many items or gold disappeared, your password or access changed, or another person may have used the account, treat it as a possible compromise: recover the account, secure the account and computer, and then submit a support ticket. A player-to-player scam follows a different route because Blizzard says it does not restore items or gold lost in scams.
Choose the right Blizzard support route
The fastest solution depends on what vanished and what else changed. Do not submit an account-compromise report for a single item that is still eligible for self-service restoration, and do not rely on Item Restoration when your whole inventory or gold balance changed.

| What happened | First action | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| One or more items were sold, destroyed, or disenchanted by mistake | Open Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Item Restoration service | Select the character and eligible item, then receive the restored item in that character’s in-game mailbox |
| An item disappeared after a quest | Check Item Restoration for the quest reward | If it is absent from the list, Blizzard says it is no longer available through restoration |
| Many items are missing, gold is missing across characters, or account access changed | Follow Blizzard’s Account Hacked guidance | Recover access, secure the Battle.net account and computer, then submit a support ticket |
| You gave items or gold to another player because of a suspected scam | Report the other account | Blizzard says it does not restore scam losses, although it may act when it can verify the incident |
Support screens and contact choices can vary by region, login status, and the issue category you select. The US flow may not display exactly the same options as an EU support page, so use the closest matching issue in the Blizzard Support site and follow the logged-in instructions shown for your account.

Open Item Restoration
- Sign in to Blizzard Support and open the World of Warcraft Item Restoration page.
- Choose the WoW character that lost the item. The service then displays items that currently meet its restoration rules.
- Select the item or items you want returned and submit the restoration request.
- Log in to the selected character and check the in-game mailbox. Blizzard says restored items are mailed directly to that character after processing.
Disenchanted items have a special condition: restoring the item reclaims the materials you received from disenchanting it. In other words, the item comes back only when the disenchanting materials are taken back through the restoration transaction.

- With a single game time purchase you can access World of Warcraft and WoW Classic, including 20th Anniversary Edition, Cataclysm Classic, Season of Discovery, and Hardcore Realms.
- Embark on your epic adventure in Azeroth for 60 days with this pre-paid game timecard.
- Simply enter your code at battle.net/code then assign this game time to any new or existing World of Warcraft account to keep the adventures going. No game purchase required.
- Includes access to World of Warcraft and WOW Classic. The most recent modern WOW expansion is sold separately.
Cooldown, quantity, and account requirements
- You can use Item Restoration once every 24 hours per character.
- Blizzard’s detailed article describes a limit of up to five items per character during that 24-hour period.
- The character must have game time or an active subscription.
- Restoration is unavailable while the account is suspended or banned.
The cooldown is per character rather than one shared timer for the entire account. Plan the request carefully if several characters have separate mistakes, and verify the item list before confirming.
Check the vendor Buyback tab before logging out
If you sold an item during your current game session, first open the vendor who bought it and inspect the Buyback tab. Blizzard’s guidance says that tab can show the 12 most recently sold items from the current session. Once you log out, that immediate buyback opportunity may no longer be available, so use it before closing the session when possible.
How long an item remains eligible
Eligibility is not a guaranteed fixed number of days for every item. Blizzard explains that better-quality and higher-item-level items are generally retained longer. Its examples are a Common (white) item that may remain recoverable for about one day and an Epic item that may remain recoverable for about 30 days. Treat those figures as examples, not promises: the list shown for your character is the authoritative indication of what can still be restored.

Items Item Restoration will not return
The restoration list is filtered by Blizzard’s rules. An item that does not appear there is not something Customer Support can manually add back; Blizzard says purged items cannot be restored by Customer Support.
- Quest items and stackable crafting materials: these are excluded from the service.
- Consumables: potions, food, and other consumable items are not eligible through this flow.
- Collection-tab collectibles: once a collectible has been added to Collections, it is not restored as a separate inventory item.
- Temporary holiday items: seasonal or temporary event items are excluded.
- Items traded or mailed to another character: an item moved through the mail or a trade is not treated as an accidental vendor sale or destruction.
- Auction House transactions: items sold on the Auction House are excluded from Item Restoration.
- Items destroyed before a character transfer or faction change: Blizzard lists these as ineligible.
For an item that was sold to a vendor, use Buyback during the current session when available; after that, use Item Restoration. For an item that is missing from the restoration list, do not keep repeating the request or open multiple tickets expecting a manual recovery—Blizzard’s stated position is that purged items are no longer recoverable.
Quest rewards that are missing
If a quest reward was sold, destroyed, or disenchanted, open Item Restoration and select the character that completed the quest. Eligible rewards appear alongside other recoverable items. The same exclusions and cooldown apply.

If the quest reward does not appear, Blizzard says it is no longer available through restoration and Customer Support cannot recover a purged item. Before filing a ticket, make sure you are checking the character that received the reward and that the item was not converted into a collection entry or moved by mail or trade; those situations are handled under the exclusions above.

When missing items suggest an account compromise
A broad loss is different from a single misclick. Treat the situation as a possible account compromise if several characters lost items, your gold balance changed without an explanation, your password or email changed, you cannot sign in, or you notice activity you did not perform.
Follow the recovery and security sequence
- Recover the account: use Blizzard’s Account Recovery process for a forgotten password, changed credentials, or loss of access.
- Secure the Battle.net account and computer: follow Blizzard’s security instructions for the account and the computer you use to play. Securing the computer matters because a compromised device can expose a newly changed password again.
- Add stronger sign-in protection: Blizzard recommends adding a Battle.net Authenticator and a passkey as part of preventing future compromises.
- Submit a support ticket after securing the computer: describe what changed, which characters are affected, and the approximate time of the unauthorized activity. Use the account-compromise issue category rather than the normal mistaken-item form.
Blizzard’s Account Hacked guidance presents this order—account recovery, securing the account and computer, then a ticket—so support receives a report after immediate access risks have been addressed. An account-hacked article surfaced on Blizzard’s EU support domain; regional pages can differ, so use the corresponding US account-recovery experience when you play on the US service.

Where to look when gold is missing
A lower balance on one character does not automatically prove theft. Before opening an account-compromise ticket, check the ordinary places gold can go:
- An Auction House purchase or other Auction House transaction may have spent or reserved the gold.
- A vendor purchase may account for the difference.
- Gold may have been mailed to another character or to another player.
- A deposit into a guild bank can make the character’s personal balance look lower.
- The gold may have been used to buy a WoW Token.
- An addon display problem may be showing an incorrect balance even though the underlying amount is unchanged.
Check the affected character and your other characters, mail, guild-bank activity, recent purchases, and the Auction House before deciding the loss is unexplained. Blizzard specifically flags gold missing across all characters as a reason to consult its Account Hacked guidance. If the broad-loss indicators are present, secure the account and computer first, then report the incident through support.

Player scams and disputed trades
Scam losses are not handled like accidental vendor sales. Blizzard states that it does not restore items or gold lost through player-to-player scams. Report the suspected scammer through the in-game or support reporting route and provide the relevant character names, approximate time, chat context, and transaction details if requested.

Blizzard says it may take action when it can verify the incident, but that enforcement possibility is not a promise to reimburse you. Do not describe a voluntary trade as an accidental destruction or use Item Restoration to try to reverse it; the restoration service is for the eligible loss types listed in its rules.
How to contact Blizzard when self-service is not enough
For a loot problem that does not resolve through the troubleshooting and self-service options, open Blizzard Support, choose World of Warcraft, select the closest issue—such as a loot or missing-item problem—and use the available Contact Us route.
The available contact method depends on the selected issue and whether you are signed in. The available evidence does not establish a universal phone number, guaranteed live chat, or a response-time promise. Follow the contact choices actually displayed in your logged-in support flow rather than relying on an option shown for a different region or category.
What to include in a ticket
- The Battle.net account and region involved.
- Character names, realms, and the item or gold amount affected.
- Whether the item was sold, destroyed, disenchanted, mailed, traded, or sold through the Auction House.
- Approximate date and time of the loss, including your time zone if relevant.
- Any password, email, or access change that preceded the loss.
- The checks you already completed, such as Buyback, Item Restoration, mail, guild bank, Auction House, and addon troubleshooting.
Keep the description factual and separate accidental loss, suspected compromise, and suspected scam. Those categories lead to different policies and different first steps.
Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- One item, accidental vendor sale or destruction: check the vendor’s Buyback tab during the current session, then use Item Restoration.
- Disenchanting mistake: use Item Restoration and expect the disenchanting materials to be reclaimed.
- Quest reward missing: check the restoration list; if absent, Blizzard says it is purged and unavailable.
- Several items or characters affected: stop treating it as a normal restoration request and follow Account Hacked recovery and security steps.
- Gold missing: check Auction House, vendor purchases, mail, guild bank, WoW Token activity, and addon display before escalating; broad losses across characters warrant compromise guidance.
- Player induced the loss: report the account, understanding that Blizzard does not promise restoration for scams.
- Still unresolved: choose the closest World of Warcraft issue and use the Contact Us path shown by Blizzard Support.
